    Brady won 5 rings in the same time span Joe played whom retired at 38. Won 2 more after. Has been to the SB 10 times compared to Joes 4. So while he lost 3 he still almost Dbld Joes ring count ane still could end up with 8. Also Tom played under the same rules his first 3 SBs. Remember it was the hit Tommy took in 08 which was the driving force behind penalizing players for hitting QBs below the knees. The other ones came after. Tbh I agree with you to a extent in that I think these comparisons are unfair in a way because its a team sport and imho its more appropriate to call someone a Goat of a era or a decade but even using that metric id say Tom still edges Joe because hes done it in 2 eras and is working on a third. Hes already had 2 HOF careers for sure and it could be argued hes had 3. So either by career span or total Tom still Trumps Joe and unlike B-Ball where stats are padded Tom is still having his best seasons personally. I mean really anyway you look at it Tom is the 🐐.

    Brady’s longevity, and therefore career achievements, are obviously superior. But “GOAT” conversations are supposed to be about prime vs prime, and that’s a different conversation. Or at least that’s how I see it, at the very least more people should specify whether GOAT means the GOAT in their prime, or the GOAT of total accomplishments.

  • @NMack-is3nb

    @NMack-is3nb

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@joebuck4496 you have to look at the entire career of a player. There would be hundreds of goats if we were just looking at prime only. The reason why Brady stands out as the greatest is because of how clutch he was over the span of 22 years. Joe Montana was phenomenal for his time and before Brady came around he was probably the goat. I don't know if we'll have another Brady in our lifetime that will match Tom's accomplishments or surpass them.

  • @joebuck4496

    @joebuck4496

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@NMack-is3nb well if that is how you define GOAT then it would definitely Brady. I have also seen people who would define GOAT as prime vs prime YET having a certain minimum requirement for how long a player was in that prime for…in other words excluding short spurts of greatness like Bo Jackson. And other people would even allow Bo Jackson to be in the argument (the Field of Dreams version of GOAT, we live in Heaven where everyone is eternally in their prime without injuries, you’re choosing players for a random pickup game, who you choosing at QB, RB, WR, etc. lol).

    I have to wonder how many more rings Joe would have had if he had played in Brady’s era where QBs are so much more protected. Joe took way more punishment than Brady during his career because defenses were allowed to just pulverize QBs in his era. Brady’s longevity is impressive no matter how you slice it & I take nothing away from his accomplishments. But having watched the entire careers of both players, there’s no doubt in my mind that Brady played during an era that allows him to play much longer than Montana did. Brady is among the best of his era & unquestionably the most accomplished. But in my eyes, Montana is truly the GOAT.

    Joe got to play before unrestricted free agency - allowing the Niners to have an all-star team on both sides of the ball for many years. And Joe's two biggest injuries happened when he held onto the ball too long - situational awareness is one area where Brady clearly excels.

  • @bhongtastic

    @bhongtastic

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@peterkay8997 This unrestricted free agency statement has little to do with longevity, but for argument's sake, don't forget it wasn't exclusive to the 49ers in that period - every team could spend without limit. Still, you're implying that the 49ers bought their supposed all-star teams during Montana's era. I don't see facts to support this. In fact, now that you mention it, I see the opposite where it was Brady's era Patriots who bought their all-star teams, not the Montana era 49ers. Practically every "all-star" of Montana's era 49ers were drafted by the team - Ronnie Lott, Dwight Clark, Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, Harris Barton, Randy Cross, Charles Haley, Keena Turner, Tom Rathman, John Taylor... By contrast, the Patriots throughout the Brady era have bought many impact free-agents that the team rode to victories and multiple Super Bowls - Corey Dillon, Mike Vrabel, Darrell Revis, Rodney Harrison, Dion Lewis, Rob Ninkovich, Roman Phifer, Antowain Smith, Alan Branch, Aquib Talib, etc. If anything, facts show that Brady's Patriots were the ones boasting mercenary all-stars bought with free-agency money. Also, I don't know what your point is in saying Montana lacked situational awareness compared to Brady because he took two vicious injury-inducing hits throughout his 13 seasons with the team. By your logic, Brady has even less situational awareness because he held onto the ball too long in 2008 against the Chiefs, allowing himself to get knee-tackled and ripping up his ACL. Sustaining injuries does not equate to having/not having situational awareness. Facts show that the NFL has instituted rules during Brady's era to protect the QB. One such rule is even called "The Brady Rule" for crying out loud. This isn't my opinion - search google and you'll find ample evidence that the league has instituted rules and fines to protect QBs throughout Brady's career. The Montana/Brady GOAT topic in some ways parallels the Jordan/Lebron GOAT one. Montana, like Jordan, has a spotless championship record, all with home-grown teams. And while Brady hasn't jumped from team to team, like Lebron's teams, his teams have played in more championship rounds than Montana, clearly helped by rules that handicapped defenders and on teams that were filled with free agent studs that they themselves helped to buy. Brady always took below-market value contracts so the Pats could sign all their all-stars. Lebron just hand-picked his sidekicks and formed super-teams. Different eras, different tactics.
