Tom Anderson Innovations

Комедия

When you talk with Tom Anderson, you also always talk about the multiple innovations he brought to the construction of a modern Strat. Here we go through some of the bigger ones, while most of the potential lies in turning back and rethinking the process every once in a while.

My Tom Anderson guitar is the best I have owned in every way. I started playing in bands in 1966 and owned many brands and models of guitars as well being a guitar tech for over thirty years.

After many brands, it’s a Tom Anderson for me. Absolutely amazing feel, frets, tone, and diversity. I own an S triple single, an Atom w two covered Hummies… no need to own anything else. Running through a Koch, or Mesa… Beautiful!

I’m not a pro by any means, but I’ve owned and played quite a few guitars. For some reason, the TAs I’ve played (I own one now), have all been...amazing. My classic shorty is just my perfect guitar. It’s solid, super light weight, roasted maple neck...it’s a monster and and inspires me so much to play and create. Because of it, I can’t imagine investing that kind of money (yes, they are pricey, but in this case, you definitely get what you pay for) into another brand of guitar. It’s that good.

I’ve owned a couple of tom’s guitars. They are definitely buttery and play great but lack any kind of character. They are overpriced and the guy who works customer service is super pretentious. I went to purchase a third one and asked for a custom finish, because their finishes are lame. I also wanted a novel pick up/switching system…He said “we don’t do that” and hung up the phone. So I sold both my Tom Anderson’s and bought a Duesenburg and a custom shop tele. No regrets at all. One nice thing is that they still sell well, but I doubt that’ll be the case in the future. Gibson tried to sue them, and instead of doing what Paul did, they caved. Tom actually tried to close the shop cause Roy is a jerk and a megalomaniac. It’s too bad one guy can ruin one man’s genius creations. That stupid A on the headstock... so cringy - 90s dad crap. There’s like three guys in the shop who make magic. And Tom is amazing at quality control. He’s just gotta find somebody else to pick up the phone. If you have a young player with taste, you would be wise to listen and build something that will really catch peoples attention. Save your money and get something with vibe. Perfection is nice, but those guitars never got played in the studio... they seem to be about five years behind. The new raven is definitely an improvement for them, but come on. Long scale jazz master/mustang relics? What is this 2009? I had a friend call them blandersons. Don’t test them... wimps make wimpy guitars

I love Anderson guitars. Tom and Roy treat everyone like they're a celebrity. The workmanship, playability and tone quality of my guitar is through the roof ! I hope someday to add a hollow cobra to compliment my hollow T.

Tell me again why these guitars are so expensive again? Twice the price of other custom shops- I don't see how they really are twice as good and few stores even carry the brand.

Have you played one? Are you commenting based on first hand experience (where I assume you would be directly comparing TA's workmanship to the other custom shop guitars you're referencing), or ignorance? And where are these other custom shop guitars that go for half of what Andersons cost?

Every guitar has a certain value to someone. If you haven't spent any time with these guitars, then there is no way to "tell" you about them. I think Zappa said "writing about music is like dancing about architecture." You have to go play them and see if they're the guitar for you. They may not be. What they cost is irrelevant. You'll either subscribe or you won't and either feeling is valid. I know Tom and his employees personally and understand that they simply can't build the quantity of guitars that would be able to support a massive worldwide dealership. There are many dealers that would love to sell his guitars but they simply can't make enough. Believe me, the dealer network isn't small because because they're disinterested. Also, you should check the price of Fender, Gibson and Suhr custom shop guitars. You'll find that Tom's prices are very much in line especially compared to Gibson.

Interesting you had a bad experience. I spoke to a dealer and you can pretty much customize the whole guitar. No trouble changing the body wood, neck, fingerboard, finish, neck shape etc...

With all due respect you kind of sound like a jackass. Just asserting all sorts of things. You "think" the finishes are lame. You "think" the logo is "cringy." I imagine you despise Tylers. "wimps make wimpy guitars" lmfao. Dude. I imagine you're a joy to be around. Are they not metal enough for you??
