Toledo Bend Bass Champs. Bad winds, big waves and BIG BASS!

Спорт

Here it is! The February Bass Champs tournament on Toledo Bend Lake!
Now if you've been fishing Toledo or have been following my social media you guys and gals already know Toledo Bend has been fishing very tough. Between icy cold fronts, heavy fishing pressure and lack of good cover(grass) there aren't as many productive areas as there usually is.
Bass Champs called for a trailering event because of incoming weather. We didn't really know exactly where we wanted to fish until tournament morning. We picked an area that we don't really fish often but knew it would be well protected from the heavy northeast winds. A major front was blowing in around lunch and the winds were going to gust close to 40mph.
We caught 3 big keepers before we had the camera rolling. We started recording about 7:20am after it was safelight, and we could remove our anchor light. (Gotta follow the tournament rules and state boating laws)
We used our livescope to find stumps in two to six feet of water. We would throw chatter baits, square bills and rat l traps around the isolated stumps to catch our bass.
The best bite was right at 7am and ended about 7:45. I did catch a 5 pounder about 1:30 in the heavy rain that gave us a huge upgrade! We placed 16th over all in the tournament.
If you're new to my channel definitely SUBSCRIBE!
Tight lines & God Bless!

I got the 400mph bass pro rain suit but I don't think it'll do justice in 20 degree weather lol. I'm looking forward to the 60+ degree water temps.

I’ve got two 100mph suits. That red one is like from 2004. My other one is from about 2011. The 2011 one is wore out 😂 I’m glad the old one didn’t leak. I put a ton of camp dry on it. That camp dry is a life saver but I agree. 20degree days are TERRIBLE!!!!! I’m so ready for that 60+ myself. Hopefully winter is on it’s way out.

Thanks bud! It’s fishing good. I’m just so tired of these dang weekend cold fronts. I’m up here now but I highly doubt I put my boat in the water. It’s cold and nasty out here. About the same conditions as this day. I ain’t that mad at the fish.

@Lance Duff I see that. Sometimes those make for some good conditions, just no fun being out in it. At least y'all got in the money. I just got in from a project and plan on finally installing my Live. Headed up to O.H. Ivie the week of the 22nd to try and land one of those big girls. They're catching giants over there. A 17.5 pounder was just caught and all of them off of Livescope. Wish I could have gone this month or last for pre-spawn but it is what it is. Went to the Raven the other day and they have the lake drawn way down for construction projects. Fishing was tough

@@rexjohnson8881 nice!!! That lake is on fire. I wanna go so bad but with my son I can get away for more than 2 days. Hopefully next year when he gets a little older I can take a road trip. Wow really?! Why do they do this crap while they’re spawning. Those parks and wildlife college degrees are really working for them 🤦🏻‍♂️

@Lance Duff Yeah it is! They're bring double digits in constantly. Maybe we can get together and plan a trip for next year? Two day really isn't enough time since it is a 6.5 hour drive alone. Next year he'll be bigger though and maybe you can break away. I'm not sure if it's still low or not but when I went towards the end of January, it was way down and they just started construction. I saw a lot of nice laydowns and cover that I've never seen before though so at least some good came of it.

@@rexjohnson8881 next year would definitely be easier. I agree. At least 3 to 4 days it’s about 7.5 hours from me. Definitely wanna make it worth it. That’s a good thing. Hopefully they don’t mess with the water levels anytime soon and let those bass spawn

What should I use in February on Toledo bend and where?

  • @lanceduff

    @lanceduff

    Жыл бұрын

Go to my Toledo bends playlist and watch the very first video. This video was recorded the second week of February if I remember correctly. As far as fishing big coves where you know they will be spawning. February is either early spawn or prespawn depending on how the cold fronts move in.

La nana bay is full of crappie! Every year there is a major crappie spawn in there. It’s happening now. Fish 3 to 6’ of water and throw black and chartreuse tail grubs. Just fish coves and shorelines where you’d think they’d be spawning.
