My husband and I spent our last night in Tokyo sitting at a bench outside that temple, enjoying the crisp March air and the city lights reflecting off the pond.❤

_Very_ dramatic death scene! 🤣I love Satoshi's theatricality, and Shinichi's cool response: "Oh. Okay. He's dead." 😂 That was a fun and unexpected ending to an enjoyable and informative walk. The hidden wet market was a great tip! Thank you, Shinichi and Satoshi!💜💜

Thank you so much for this video. My friends and I were blessed enough to take a trip to Ueno this past May. Recognizing so many places from Ameyoko has filled me with so much joy and emotion

I love these walk videos! also from the lesser known areas in the city. As a student I came to Ueno often as I lived in Yanaka. I went to the market for some fruits and veggies etc. but the market could be so crowded. And I remember that department store at the end of the ameyoko cho; it was like a maze, but you could find some good deals on there. It was great to be back there this summer even if it was only for an afternoon in the park. Saya was so happy with the saved ice and that she was allowed to put as many flavors syrup on top of it as she wanted. I didn't know you could eat cicada😶 If it powdered and you mix it through something I have no problem with it. whole crickets is not my favorite, I had it once.

Lol u guys...another fine walk. Every trip to Tokyo I visit Ameyoko. Mostly for the nostalgic (natsukashi) reasons. I came to that conclusion bcs I really don't buy much there. Many memories going back decades~

I was there earlier this year! I actually saw a different insect vending machine, and the wall around the machine had insect silhouettes. I couldn't make my mind up about what to eat, though and I ended up eating a ton of street food at the park during the cherry blossom festival! I have a few ideas if what I want to try next time.

Insects are a good source of protein. I've had chocolate covered crickets but my favorite is fried meal worns I've had several different flavors of meal worms and they're delicious. I'd love to try that cricket ramen.

While Ueno has lost much of her old Tokyo feel, it's still the home of our favorite ramen place, 上野 麺屋武蔵 武骨相傳.

Insects as alternate source of protein is not a new thing, and I believe there's a place in Tokyo that actually does insect protein ramen.

Crickets can be fried and would be crunchy. I would try them. Are the huge grapes (and other "perfect" and expensive fruits) cultivated by crossbreeding or are they genetically modified?

Your memory is deceiving you my dear Shinichi, the Sega Saturn used CDs. Certain games had cartridges that expanded the RAM but those were only a few. Maybe you meant the Sega Mega Drive (Sega Genesis in other regions) instead?

eww I could never eat bugs ... maybe if they were pulverised and I wouldn't know but some years ago my phobia was so bad that I was even running away from butterflys crying and shaking like someone is about to kill me. since my working holiday in Japan (because of all those bugs everywhere) my phobia got much less strong so even though I am still scared I am not running away from butterflys I just don't want them anywhere near my face, similar with most other bugs.
