Numerous archaeological finds show that the area of present-day Toffia was inhabited as early as the Middle Bronze Age, about 1,200 years before Christ.
Here stood a settlement with permanent farming activity, positioned along a transhumance route, which remained anonymous for years and which only today has it been possible to identify with the ancient Suna, a city of the Aborigines (mythology)..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

I so look forward to these videos. What a gift to see towns and places that so often are overlooked but are as, or more, special than their more famous sister towns and cities. I'm really enjoying seeing more people and activities in the videos too as it gives a sense of what a day in the town is like. Ric, THANK YOU! Dear Riccardo, I don't think I will ever get tired of watching your videos of these enchanting small towns. I like the house at 11:42 and the pretty garden at 12:59. I was quite taken with your walk through the old part of the town. Lots of interesting things to see. I was truly fascinated by the 'Square of the Beautiful Thought.' Can anyone who visits there, write a message and leave it as part of the display? Ok, I must admit I was kind of creeped out by the sound of the cat sensor but I guess the cats around the area has grown accustomed to it.😀 Thanks again for bringing something beautiful into our homes through your travel videos. Much appreciation and gratitude.

Dear Lang, as always , very happy to see you again in here my dear friend; happy you enjoyed also Toffia as I found it also very charming; a strange or peculiar mix of cosy but at the same time a "harsh" one perhaps, a strange mix but very lovely. As far as Maria told me, her sister actually made all that display there and also about the poems; everybody can leave one and they put it in place. Also, the guitar, she told me, sometimes she plays it too but it's open for whoever wants. Quite an artistic family I found in them! Heh, that cat sensor was a little creepy actually at first, but then... got used to it somehow. I hope the people living there too actually. As always, Grazie for your kind words. Next Friday I'll upload a town I truly loved... a kind of "ghost" town but which is not ghost at all and full of tourists. Wish you a nice week my dear Lang and "to soon" as they say

Ken here again! I sent you an email about this and other villages and towns like it. Is the comment below true? That this town dates to 1200BC? Wow. I will have to rewatch it, and I look forward to your email reply. You have some of the most remarkable, emotion-filled walking tours on KZread. Every time you turn down another cobblestoned street in a hilltop town, it seems to actually breathe, to whisper its secrets, its stories of centuries gone by. What a marvelous thing you do.

@@susanlombardo8444 hi Susan! Sometimes it's difficult to access them by public transportation. Many times without a car it's a real hassle to reach them.. And many times the narrow alleys and very steep ones aren't the easiest to walk on, but not always! Usually there are always small shops inside and of course outside of the historical centre there are supermarkets too most (if not all) of the time. It's just that accessibility can be tricky to some of them

Thank you…I was seventeen then and I never forgot that wonderful village… which does not seem to have changed that much… But it's difficult to say… ;)

@@zefidio Thierry thank you - I'm not living too far away from it - indeed I also think didn't change much. Perhaps the country in its entirety changed... mentality too I must say.

Why are all these villages looking deserted. Very few people, very few cars. Very groomed with beautiful flowers and plants. No litter. This is the theme of your video’s, deserted towns and villages??????

Hi Susan, these are towns which very unfortunately aren't very well known by tourists and are often overlooked by the majority of them; usually tourists go always to the same places (Matera, Capri, Sorrento etc etc etc) because they don't know that there are in Italy Many other stunning towns which, I believe, are truly hidden gems and deserve to be seen as to be known. I don't film exclusively these "forgotten towns" of Italy though; my last 2 videos were filmed in Venice during carnival, for instance, and they are the most crowdy walking tours one can findi guess :) - you can find crowded towns easily in the homepage of the channel (search also for most viewed! Many crowdy towns there) So it's a mix of the two: famous and crowdy towns and cities and off-the-beaten-path "forgotten" towns of Italy.

@@susanlombardo8444 glad you enjoy them Susan! Indeed, some of these towns are very unfortunately depopulating at quite a fast rate... Many times older people live there. I try to make them some little justice, I hope
