    Hi josh, last time I commented "notes-taking“ were bothering, you said" try to find a way best fit you". I read your reply carefully. I interpreted this message as" there is no tactic that fits every one, if it doesn't make you feel comfortable, then go for another". Based on this recognition, I started to experiment in my daily listening TOEFL listening by not taking any notes but just predicting where or when there might be a "question" after the listening. Guess what? It absolutely worked to me!! I was amazed by how my listening performance had been dramatically improved because of a specific listening strategy being changed. Now, I am not scared of TOEFL listening anymore. So, thank you for your enlightenment. Besides, I also learn that it will be more beneficial for us to persist one technique for a little while and then decide to quit or adopt it. Sometimes a good method needs verifying only after amounts of trials (P.s. I didn't try this with patience before, so I missed it). This approach, namely, listening without notes but focusing and predicting , finally retains due to my patience and close observation this time. Thank you again. I will continue to support and follow you! Wish you all the best, Josh.❤💯🙏

    Keep practicing and stay motivated! One of the best techniques for improving your TOEFL Speaking score is to re-record the same response until you get it perfect. By re-recording responses, you give your brain the opportunity to focus on fixing small mistakes that need improvement - instead of worrying about the content you are talking about. For example, if you are practicing with a Question Type 1, here is what you should do: 1. Record your response and listen to your response. Ask yourself the following questions: - Is your response under 45 seconds? - Did you include specific details and examples, like a personal story? - Did you include an introduction and conclusion? - Did you say 'umm' more than 3 times? 2. Continue to record the same response until you have mastered all of the techniques above. You can apply this same technique to the integrated questions as well.

    I have a question regarding all the types of speaking tasks. In the real exam, do we get the computerized instruction, like start reading now, now listen to the lecture. If we get this computerized instruction in real exam, then I guess I'll get 3-4 seconds every time there is an instruction. For example - For the 2nd task. We get the instructions, now read the passage. The time alloted to read the passage is 45 seconds, but if I add the time for the computerized instruction then the total time is somewhat 50 seconds. So, Mr. MacPherson or any of my fellow mates who have already given the test. Please confirm this and clear my confusion.

    Hello, everyone! I've noticed that there are variations in the questions we receive. Some ask for a brief summary of the announcement, while others just request us to report the person's opinion. Should I adapt my approach depending on the question, or is it acceptable to provide a summary of the reading passage even when the question explicitly just asks for the opinion? By the way, those videos are tremendously helpful. Thank you very much for your hard work!

  • @TSTPrep

    @TSTPrep

    9 ай бұрын

    Hi, just to clarify a few points: A speaking question 2 will never ask your opinion. You should always answer in the third person. Also, ETS says you just need to summarize the reading, but if you do the summary too quickly you run out of things to say and cannot fill up one minute. So the best approach is to say the main idea of the reading and the two reasons in the reading that support this idea. This should take you about 20 seconds. Then use the rest of the time to summarize the listening.

    @@myrandomfood7659 Hi, and thanks for your question. They will not deduct points for this. In fact, in general, you should always talk about the reading. The main reason for this is there is not that much information in the listening. If you only talk about the listening, you will quickly run out of things to say. Usually, I begin my speaking by talking about what the announcement is and the two reasons the reading gives to support the change. This can be done in about 15-20 seconds. Then I use the rest of the time to discuss the conversation.

    Hi, and thanks for your question. I am not sure what you mean by second and third paragraphs, because a speaking question two should only have one paragraph to read. This will make it less likely you will run out of things to say, which can be a problem on question two.

    Do we also need to discuss the points mentioned in the article? Because I think that it will reduce our time.

    In fact, you should always talk about the reading. Hope this helps!

    when answering Q2, can I say : the man had a negative attitude about the notice and he opposes it for several reasons. Is that correct to use past simple then complete talk using present simple??

    Good question. It is better to use simple present and say he "has" a negative attitude.
