Great tips. Because i only do child photography occasionally, my mistake (for years) has been assuming the parents come prepared to engage the toddler in a manner that's conducive to getting the shots. In retrospect, it's clear that as the photographer I would need to meet them half-way, either bring props/distractions/activities, or just explain the process to the parents ahead of time os we're on the same page. Live and learn. Great insight.

Glad it was helpful! Toddlers can be tricky business. Sometimes it is best to just let be toddlers, and catch their in-between moments! But yes, I have often gone and had to pull out quite a few tricks to get their attention and keep them laughing and having fun. Once the toddler stops having fun, we all do!

I've been into photography for a few years now but never tried shooting kids ,shooting kids (I mean with a camera) my niece has asked me to take some photos of her three year old little girl, I'll be doing this shoot on Saturday I have found this video very helpful so wish me luck and thank you

@@LiveSnapLove thank you it's tomorrow, I don't know why but I feel a bit apprehensive about this one, I'm not used to kids and I don't want to bugger this up I'll be using a Canon 7D with a 18 -135 plus the Canon nifty 50

Having my first toddler photography in a few hours, was thinking of these settings too, but glad to see them confirmed here! Fingers crossed!

I'm so glad to hear it!

I'm going to give it a shot 😉 tomorrow. I have the assistant, and I will try a game or two, although my poor twin niece and nephew have practice with my "annoying" photo sessions, and they know that it won't be all fun and games, but they enjoy the show once I get a little presentation ready of our session. They do now understand that we're capturing memories and love the final product. 😁

That's great! Sorry for the delay in replying - it's been a busy month!

Great tips Audrey and it’s interesting how many of them apply to pet photography as well. I have incorporated bubble machines into some of my photo shoots and I definitely use a higher shutter speed and smaller aperture, but I haven’t tried to shoot on aperture priority, so I’m going to give that a try. One of your other tips that I find very helpful is to use back button focus for when there is a lot of movement. Looking forward to the next video.
