Nails vocalist/guitarist Todd Jones and Gatecreeper vocalist Chase Mason talk about the division between the hardcore and metal scenes. Mason mentions that starting from the bottom, it's easier to incorporate yourself in the hardcore scene than metal. He believes the social aspect of the metal scene can be more pretentious and harder to break into while hardcore scene is more open to DIY. Todd and Chase look back on their first demos, instead released as EPs in hopes of creating more of a professional and important music statement. They also discuss their Big 4 metal and grindcore bands. March 25th 2017.

I saw Gatedreeper last night with Dying Fetus. Great show. I was talking to Matt Gatecreeper's drummer afterward and I told him a tour with Obituary would be great. He then told me how they influence him.
Just saw Gatecreeper last night, and damn what a great band, can't get those riffs outta my head. Met Chase after the show, super nice! Great video!

Hails to Todd for name-dropping Master. Paul Speckmann, as legendary as he is and his importance and contribution(s) to extreme music (Death Metal in particular) I feel is still underrated. As well as his stuff from Death Strike and even Abomination. The demos and stuff he put out in the tape-trading circuit of the mid to late 80's are still jamz that riff-worshippers should seek out and experience at least once in their lifetimes.

Oh and both of these bands are nothing but big fuckin' sweethearts. I got to see the Nails/Gatecreeper tour on the first date in Tampa the day after my b-day. Meeting and hanging out with both Chase and Todd afterwards with my friends and all of us just nerding out about bands such as Pantera, Crowbar, and Celtic Frost was one of the most memorable nights of my life. Forever support to both Nails and Gatecreeper.

power metal, grindcore, doom, thrash, death, black, sludge, nwobhm--all genres have bands that completely slay. #1 Death Metal-Autopsy, so fucking sick. Grindcore-Siege,the founding fathers and the best.

A+ bands!
I saw Gatecreeper open for Cannibal and they were really good but the vocals weren't loud enough. But maybe that was the venue's sound people's fault, who knows
Death Bolt Thrower Morbid Angel Beheaded (personal fav) Also Extreme Noise Terrors album Being & Nothing is awesome, check it out if you never have!
Master is not mentioned enough! Best vocals.
Met Chase and bought a Gatecreeper shirt at their show in S.f. when they played with c.c. Cool guy, I was hella drunk.

Top 4 death metal bands for me - GRAVE, ENTOMBED,SUFFOCATION,& SEANCE. top 4 grindcore BRUTAL TRUTH,NAPALM DEATH, PIG DESTROYER,& LOCK UP
I'd put Rotten Sound in my top 4 of grind with Nasum, Napalm Death and Brutal Truth.

The way Todd describes the Demigod demo is how I feel about Nail's Obscene Humanity. Nothing they've done after touches it.

What a shame. A legendary band.
0:49 completely based. The local Arizona metal “scene” is just a clique for bands that absolutely *have* to rip off Cannibal Slayer Death and if you so much as play the wrong chord progression for a measure, you get excluded.

Fuckin NASUM DUDE HELL YES!!! Mieszko was taken way too soon dude. Human 2.0 and Helvete were really like.... pushing the boundaries of perfect and then Shift was perfect. I have shifted into Gadget and have really enjoyed them as a close 2nd to Nasum.

Entombed is the best death metal in history . They mixed genres like no other and they dont have stinkers..
