The thing about Starfield is that you are basically brand new to the universe, everyone acts as your guide and explains everything to you, *especially* Sarah Morgan who Mom's you about everything as if you were a child. With Fallout and Elder Scrolls, everything is pretty intuitive to learn: The war, the guilds, there's ancient ruins with Dwemer artifacts within, Fallout: Nuclear apocalypse, gangs, drugs, mutant creatures, it's only ever the neuances that you have to actively learn about like energy weapons, the Elder scrolls itself etc. With Starfield, everything is a matter a fact, everything is sputtered out in detail the moment you come across it, you come across a planet, location or faction, Sarah will be there to give you a full breakdown of everything, it's exactly why there's no community discussions of the game about the lore because there's no mystery about it.

Where is house varuum, what is the serpent god. What exactly is the voice of the terror morphs you hear. What will the Juno probe discover. Basically 3 sci fi equivalents to the gods of elderscrolls right there. Where are the artifacts from and what made the unity. Are there any intelligent aliens with technology. Will future games have race system, like alien, starborn, human, cybernetic..... Where is Sebastian banks, and is he linked to the unity or house varuum , the Painting of him makes him look almost saint like as a hint. So maybe the right questions aren't being asked. And it tells you so much as it's a long history but also very recent so it's all common knowledge and you did pass out after the artifact incident.

You make a very good point and I know that internally Bethesda was supposed to have a tutorial system for all these new mechanics, to a existent they mostly decided to have no tutorials for ship building etc. But I guess that some of the over explaining of the world/lore was due to Bethesda being scared about the player not understanding this new IP they were creating. But from a lore/quest standpoint I've spoken spoken to developers at Bethesda about their intention of leaving some of the conclusions for the quests in Skyrim open ended for interpretation, when they allowed for that interoperation of the story the players literally build the lore theory's for them and have endless discussions about it.

Starfield feels like a VAST improvement of the Elder Scrolls Arena (even down to the fact that you have to fast travel everywhere). One issue with the modern gaming scene is we really don’t get massive AAA new universes anymore. Arena launched in the 80s blowing everyone away despite having all the issues of starfield and then some. Today though the last comparable game from Bethesda is Skyrim which had majorly refined and narrowed the vision of elder scrolls. From gaming its Cyberpunk 2077 (which flopped WAY harder on release and has taken a long way to climb its way back to a status that still doesn’t reach the initial prelaunch hype). People complain all the time that we don’t get new games very often anymore, but this is exactly why. Its far more risky for very little much reward. AA and indie games are fine (they greatly mitigate the risk), but when you’re making a starfield or cyberpunk in the modern landscape you’re going to make a LOT of mistakes and risks, but the issue is that it still needs to match the quality of other AAA games gamers expect and will cost a crap ton to make.

@@vullord666 You seem to be equating media hype with "flopped games" The actual player reviews of Cyberpunk outside of the decade old consoles it didn't work on have been over all very positive since launch and continue to be so today, not only that nearly every player issue with the game has been addressed, everything I mentioned on my own review has been fixed, so the devs are actually looking at player concerns and addressing the biggest one, so no idea where you are getting "flopped and hard climb", not so with the game you are comparing it too which is "mixed" overall despite a flood of 3 hours played "game good" reviews and some really bizarre "customer service" replies telling people that there is nothing wrong with the game they're just playing it wrong or they don't understand the game. Tahts not an opinion thats a fact lol You always this easily triggered? Maybe step it up a little bro and realize that you enjoy playing garbage old dated games.. and thats okay you know, you do you. But stop calling Todd a legend thats the most ridiculous things I've read on the internet. You're a very violent and and angry person. Being angry makes you sad and it's obvious. Now, take Todd's balls out of your mouth and take a walk. You need it. Hope it gets better bro take care of yourself please. Edit: modders are the legends

TES3:Morrowind is the game that brought me into Elder Scrolls. I remember seeing a commercial for it on Cartoon Network's Toonami. It was an RPG and the setting looked interesting and different. You could join a fighters guild and do missions for them. You could join a mage's guild and learn new spells. Then I saw gameplay with giant mushroom trees and I saw a pack guar. I fell in love with Vvardenfel and loved trying to uncover the mystery of the disappearance of the Dwemer. I remember as a kid, delving into ruins and picking up every single item and reading any book my character found. I remember freaking out during the Tribunal DLC when you enter an untouched Dwemer ruin in Mournhold. I saw the ash piles next to doors with shields, swords, and helmets in them. I'd then see a pile of ash with a random potion bottle and a book. I recalled that one book in the game mentioning accounts on the battlefield on Red Mountain of Dwemer soldiers suddenly turning to ash and realized their physical bodies were destroyed across all of Tamriel (though their souls may be bound to Aetherius, making Kagrenac's attempt to make the Dwemer into gods arguably somewhat a success).

I was so disappointed when Skyrim watered the RPG of the game down to basically being a melee FPS game where skills were removed and replaced with "skill" categories that are really just the same thing as what we now know as the perk system. I loved a lot of things about Skyrim, but because of how much was removed from the game mechanics, it's still my least favorite in the series.

He deserved the flak for that tbh, no doubt. I liked your tip for Starfield, give a companion a single round of ammo, they never run out. I've been doing that in their games for decades.

I really hope that Bethesda listens to it's fans of Starfield and improve their way of making different planets, look different. This is key to improving the immersion of players within the game. After a couple play throughs, the player starts to remember where everything is located. You have 100 different systems, so assign a planet to each developer to make their own planet. These are multi million dollar games, hire more developers if needed.

Yes they need to stay with single player games. I also agree with you. Star Field has so much more potential. However, you could do more in Fallout 4, especially with base building, and other aspects. I hope they do DLCs upgrading and fixing the game to its potential. When you defeat a group at a refienry or something, you should be able to take it over, kind of like salvage rights, and then hire people to run them as what purpose you want. Assigning security, and everything a base needs. The bases you make in Star Field you get resourses but you can not really do anything with them! You should become thursty and hungry as well in any game! Also the Brig and mess hall and other parts of the ship. They should be used! When I walk through the ship people should be at the area they are specialized in! We should be able to have much more crew! Security Guards, Cooks, Computer/shields/weapons and so forth!

Multiplayer was not the problem. The issue was monetizing every facet of multiplayer. By this point, there were two generations of gamers who learned to be wary of "free to play", cash shops, micro-transactions... As Todd mentioned, the revenue stream potential of the nickel and dime model works; perhaps much better than a one time purchase. The issue comes when the business model begins to affect game play, game design, story...

Oblivion was my first as well! I think I was 14 when it released. It will always be my favourite, I believe due to nostalgia lol. I’ve played every Bethesda game since then. I do whole heartedly agree about Starfield. I love space too. So I was pretty excited for it. In terms of traditional Bethesda games it was lacking something. I’m not sure if it was the story elements, it just wasn’t as engaging. I noticed they didn’t have a lot of ‘traitors’ this time around. Which actually threw me off haha. I was half expecting one of the constellation members to betray the group, or you in one way or another. An example of Fallout 4 (some didn’t like, but I really loved this game), but right off the bat you are engaged because your partner is killed, and they steal your baby! Lol immediately you’re wondering ‘What the hell?! Why they take my kid?’ The brotherhood of steel quest was super cool to me too, and you end up really hating a character in that quest. I guess what it is, is most of their games give you real feelings and reactions from the game. Starfield didn’t really give me that. The only thing that incited a reaction was the main quest, and it’s only because I was unaware I was going to lose one of two of my favourite peoples. And that had me more cranky than anything else haha I know you see ‘them’ again, but even that wasn’t really satisfying at all. Maybe they’ll turn it around and add more cool story elements and maybe add more variety to other aspects of the game. Time will tell.

It was the same for me, we had no Internet back then. It was my favourite single player game of all times. It captured so much imagination, it blew my mind how the NPCs would have a daily routine. I had no idea it had 4 voice actors. I'm so thankful for oblivon for getting me into single player RPGs. It got me into PC gaming too. I bought a really shit laptop to run oblivon and mod it. So many painful hours and over loading mods back in the day. Time well spent lol. About 12 years ago I saw a mod that blew open the modding scene for me. It was a pokemon mod using NPCs, you would catch them with a bow lmao. I miss those days :') I was so obsessed I got 2 friends into it. Would literally nerd out so much, I knew so many NPC names and where they were at certain times etc. So many secrets and funny glitches, and amazing guilds. It really was the greatest game, I will never forgive them for removing acrobatics and spell making. I've yet to play a DLC as cool as shivering isles either.

But no game up until now can match on how immersive TES and Fallout was even back on the 360 era days. Creating a fight in towns people in skyrim that isn't part of any quest is so immersive, putting grenade on peoples pocket and make them explode? no other game thought about that even now. Everyone wanted coop so it could be you and one of your friends. Like your friend was in your world like a companion that would follow you around. Also at the end he mentions they are still doing updated for these games and he hovered around fallout 4 when he said that. When was the last creation club item released or the last update through steam or whatever platform you are playing it on. I think Todd just let slip that they are working on something new for fallout 4.

I completely agree with the complaints about Starfields scale, although I feel it makes sense for the topic of the game being space. Also one thing I want added is dual wielding weapons.

As great as Skryim is, it took some steps backward from Morrowind. TES3 (Morrowind) was a truly challenging and rewarding game! There were no quest markers, no fast travel and no hand holding. Just explore and learn about where you need to go by interacting and asking questions with the NPCs. I'm super excited about SkyWind being fully voice acted and using the Skyrim engine.

@@Joseph-wh5of Starfield reviews are lower than Fallout 76 which is lower than Fallout 4... Do you see trend here? Fallout isn't even being nominated this year for anything besides some irrelevant category at games awards. Bethesda lost its charm long time ago and this was proven with Starfield abismal performance.

@Zripas Do not realize that fallout 4 and fallout 76 are years old at this point. And they're reviews have fluctuated and changed throughout time. Starfield is 3 months old at this point. Give it time. We don't even have official modding support yet. Also, I didn't know Starfield had an abysmal performance being the number one top selling game in all of September and making its way to the top 10 best-selling games of this year within 4 weeks. That sure doesn't sound like it was abysmal

@@Joseph-wh5of Those sells only proves how gullible people are, nothing more. While fallout is years old, its reviews actually improved over that time while starfield reviews going down after this honeymoon period. Its a really bad game. It was built on a really good idea and could have been good, but people in charge either have no idea how to make good game or they had no time to properly finish it. And stop with that stupid excuse "It will be better when modders fix it"... This type of thinking can be one of the main reasons why Starfield is in this shitty state to begin with, Todd simply realized that he can push out any crap out at full price and modders will fix it for him for free...

A big critique I get when I say that I find Skyrim the best game ever is it's flaws and bugs, but then I point out some crazy backstories, quests, locations and people don't get how big of a deal they are until you've played this game. It's bugs and flaws are a representation of it's age, older tech, less resources etc. but the best thing to compare it to is some homemade dish by your grandma, to a cook it will have many flaws, but to you it's the best food you'll ever eat. Skyrim is one of the biggest "escape" games, it feels nostalgic to me even though I only played it for a few years, it's the whole aesthetic of the game that you can only call the Lord of the rings of the game world.

Ah, the everlasting quest for adhesive, it apparently continues to the 24th century. Roses are are red, violets are blue, When you play a Bethada game, Sooner or later, You'll run out of glue.

I came in with Oblivion. A guy I befriended while waiting overnight for my xbox 360 was always online playing it. Figured I'd try it out since 360 didn't have a big library at launch. Now18 years later, I'm sure I've clocked more gaming time in oblivion, fallout 3 and fallout 4 then all the games I've ever played.
