I love how he took on the role of being a dad. I had a rat named Sam he used to eat flies and other good stuff. He knew that the flies bothered me so he caught them and ate them. I miss him a lot.

Actually pet rats are great pest control they even kill mice. The answer to your question is he caught them when they went into his cage and they could not escape because it was plastic.

I have watched this adorable video so many times, and feel like I should let you know that "Toby, No!" has become an official part of my and my friend's lingo because of it. Any time we catch an animal (real or in a videogame) doing something we don't want, we say "Toby, no!"

"I'll take this, this, this... That. This too... Maybe this will be useful too... Oh and this one as well". Toby is like me in IKEA.

Richard N had a few over the years and they've gotten to a few years old...but then some start growing tumours,having fits, blood on the nose etc poor sods..i got my dad to shot one of them it got too bad in the end...kindest thing to do (in a sad way i hope it was actually ill and in pain and not just trying to shit or something :| )

This is so adorable my heart melts, Sky is so cute and Toby has so much personality!

I hand raised two baby rats at the same time. they were going to be snake food so I saved them and fed them formula and eventually baby food until they could eat on their own

I did this once as well. "Rescued" three little rats who were meant to be snake food and raised them ... one of them sadly didn't make it but the other two were just great. It broke my heart when they died so soon because rats just don't get that old... One of the reasons I stopped keeping pet rats :(

In a busy house is so easily gets polluted by scratching dogs, cats seeking attention, husbands coughing, planes flying overhead (we live close to the airport) plus I would have to turn off audiobooks and radios. So much easier (and more fun) to use music. I would have to become the 'sound police' around here every time I filmed if I wanted to use natural sound.

Honestly, if you didn't literally have to feed them -every 2 hours- I would SO be setting up to hand raise a baby or 3. But in my state the near lack of sleep for around 2 weeks straight.. I don't think the baby'd be the only one to worry about! Still.. ADORABLE video. I love how it got to a point that Toby was even taking the baby. And that adorable moment when Toby took the baby out of your hand, and let go, and the baby already knew to come back to you. Just.. d'aww doesn't even cover it. Thanks for sharing!

What a smart little mouse, he is SO cute and the baby to ;O). It was so fun to see how he stole different things, especially small pieces of paper (which he apparently used as a carpet); D Have you built the little house? And the little bed, etc.? That's just fine and so fun to watch when the little Toby fills the house with stolen stuff. Perhaps he tries to tell you that he needs some new furniture. : oD Just amazing ... I do lol she put the paintbrush in his mouth because sense the mouse is so small, he can't eat on his own so she makes food into liquid form puts it on a paintbrush and let him like it off :)

Stress, genetics are usually to blame. Mentally healthy mice in a stable family group should not eat their babies unless one is sickly.

They are both Mice. Toby just seems big because the baby is so tiny. I have kept rats for years. A dwarf rat could be Tobys size, but the head and ears are to small, and tail is to short.
