I think I know who the knight is

Can't help but wonder if Toby took some inspiration from Nightmare Knight's dilemma in Cucumber Quest for the Knight in Deltarune. The Knight could be a lightner who, similar to the group at the end of Chapter 2, wanted to create a bunch of fictional worlds as a method of escaping the real world and living a better life. Either they want to maintain the fountains as a way of keeping all of their new friends with them, or they want to replace the current world with one giant dark world; hence why they're trying to bring more fountains into existence. Completely supplanting a harsh reality with their escapist fantasy.

For the first part of the song, it uses the soundfont of Revenge of Meta Knight from Kirby Super Star (most obvious in its opening cutscene). After that, it uses soundfonts used throughout Kirby's Dream Land 3. Edit: Actually, it uses all Dream Land 3 soundfonts. Yes, the beginning soundfont is found in RoMK, but it is also in Iceberg's map.

This song is such a _banger._ I just can’t get over it. It uses so many complicated rhythms, a fast pace, and a ton of power behind it. It perfectly encapsulates this dreamy feeling of fighting a knight of nightmares! Plus it uses Kirby soundfonts! And, if the hints to the Knight and the recurring use of a motif from this song in Deltarune mean anything, just like Megalovania I think, at least I hope to dog we might get a remake of this thing! Please Toby make it happen! Edit: Coming back to this song a year later with Chapter 2's release: Attack of the Killer Queen uses part of this song (1:29, it's easier to hear if you compare it to The World Revolving) right at the end of it, and considering her whole inspiration for creating more Dark Fountains was the Knight... yeah we're totally getting more of this song. I can't wait! :D

How do you hear amalgam?

The Kirby soundfont really conveys a whimsical and dreamy feeling, while the composition and rythm gives the sensation of finality and danger. It sounds like an alternative theme for the Zero boss battle in the hyper zone.

it's amazing when composers manage to recreate perfectly the feel of a game using its soundfont, i used to think this sounds sounded so good because the cool soundfonts used, but now that i have a lot more experience with music and soundfonts i know it actually doesn't have any weight if its not used correctly, even if the soundfont has good sounds

That "Boinwwp" near the end of the tracks hits so hard, it just fills my body with chills and determination

@@Gabsagainstgod It's hard to say "the best" when you have MeGaLovania, Liquid Negrocity, Black, Savior of the Waking World, Descend, Keepers, English, Umbral Ultimatum, Octoroom rangoon, Killed by BR8K SPIDER !!!!!!!!, etc.

This would make sense as the deltarune final boss, as the main antagonist is hinted at being the Knight, and Toby said that the ending was from a fever dream he had.

Toby fix actually made all the music in the universe he just had to give credit to others so people wouldn’t stalk him

This song will, in some way, be used in Deltarune. Mark my words. And if they're wrong, please erase them.

It's also in "THE WORLD REVOLVING" which also happens to be another antagonist's theme. I find it really interesting that the villains, (admittedly, not the king.) have a similar jingle to the nightmare knight theme. Not only that, but there is also mention of a "knight", who's probably going to be a bad guy, if not, THE bad guy. "The knight" did do something to Jevil, so the theme is present. I'm just saying, if the night makes an appearance and this song is his theme, you read it here first.

You can hear twinges of regret in this song.

people acting like toby fox reusing parts of different songs is lazy but like. Reorchestrating a song or reusing pieces from one song to make something entirely new isn't a bad thing nor is it lazy especially when the quality of his work is so GOOD. I love this and you know??? Toby's songs are always capable of invoking emotions and filling me with great vibes. utilizing kirby sounds just shows he has GOOD TASTE.

As lazy as it seems, leitmotif is actually rather difficult to pull off sometimes. The fact that Toby Fox is so damn good at it only adds to the infinite reasons why I admire him and his music so much.

@@DmitriDmitri Not really. Undertale can influence some bad things on already amazing projects. Not saying Undertale is bad, but Undertale can do some bad things to y'know, those things... Take that Friendship theme by Toby Fox. It was put into Undertale Red, a fan game, and now it's completely associated with Undertale! I just think that sometimes projects need to stay individually by themselves, if you get what I mean, I guess.

Lots of people have been mentioning Amalgamate at the beginning, and The Door/The Chase/THE WORLD REVOLVING later on. For some reason, the chords at 0:42 remind me of Gravity Falls, and the bit initially appearing at 1:53 is somewhat similar in rhythm to Heartache.

the sparkling melodie part will totally be used in deltarune's fight against the knight, specially since it is followed by one of the most used motifs in deltarune. MARK MY WORDS

I can feel toby fox straining himself to not play Meta Knight's Revenge

I don't think I should be too surprised that Toby Fox is able to replicate the style associated with Kirby music. After all, he's proven time and time again that he is NOT one to be underestimated. Also, why do I get the feeling that this tune would be perfect for a hypothetical fight with some sort of fusion of Meta Knight and Nightmare?

Am I the only one that also hears a bit of Amalgam in this? Especially at around 0:23

@Loi Valdes Nice to see they’re still doing some creative work, even if finishing cucumber quest didn’t work out.

Those synths at the very beginning are taken straight out of the Revenge of Meta Knight intro theme, and the rest of the song is straight up in the Kirby's Dreamland 3 soundfont, with a hint of that game's Grass Land melody thrown in. Toby really just made an SNES era Kirby song from the ground up and didn't tell us.
