Excellent interview given by P. Chidambaram. He remained calm and composed throughout. Whatever statements he made were with proper stats and proofs. I would like to raise one point that why is it that no one raised an issue over the amount of money spent by the govt. over printing new notes, calibrating the ATM machines and the govt advertising for digital India everyday since 8th Nov.

Karan Thapar is an embarrassment to journalism. He is a Congress poodle - this interview and his interviewing of Kapil Sibal are good proof. On the other hand, when he interviews BJP politicians, he gets rude and aggressive from very first opening line. Nothing wrong in grilling politicians. But this guy, his bias and selective outrage are nauseating.

Economist? Learn what an economist mean. The man just holds a Management degree. Anyone with a MBA from a reputed institute can speak like if they are good enough to speak politely in polished English. Indians have this obsession over rating ppl as intellectuals if their English is good. The man was a disaster as a lawyer and went to Harvard to find a career. Excellent, eloquent, informative interview in a very clear and understanding pace by the one and only P Chidu. He is a man who talks with evidence. He may be right or wrong at least he does not stoop down to the level of BJP leaders way of talking in the interview which is just blaming the congress / media, yelling or talk over the interviewer, rhetorics, beating around the bush and not answering or explaining the point of view with confidence and evidence.

I read below comments and surprised about the fact that he is corrupt comment by few folks. I do believe Mr Chidambaram is corrupt but who is not but i do believe he is sensible and knows his numbers atleast. The point of this interview is how this will effect INDIAN economy ?, how this will pan out in coming months ?, how one should be prepared ?. Silly folks needs to understand the content and intent of the interview.

PC Sir.. one thing came out clear.. delay procrastination what Congress epitomized should have been the norm.. PM Narasimha Rao reformed so many less in 1991 in less than 100 days .. 300 Crores printing of cash is 5 days week and 2 shift -- with 7 days a weeks and 3 shifts the cash printing capacity When we pay digital cash, privacy is not compromised .. If I pay 100 pays through card -- what I bought is not recorded except the the shops names . Digital is easy and hence people should embrace.. This fundamental right of using cash argument is going too far ..

saurabh sood on a practical note simply taking your statement only u talked about sabzi vendors rickshaw vala true indeed we don't have to pay them through debit card because we can use smaller notes like 100 to pay to them, let's again be real no sabzi vala gets 500 1000 rs notes on daily basis! The idea is of less cash economy not completely cashless If I wanna go out to buy sabzi I don't need cars 100 rs notes will do but when i go to retail stores n buy groceries I can pay through card or E wallets as simple as that, it is convenient as well as no chance for tax evaders as no cash.

It is very ironic that Mr. Chidambaram has no comments on Rahul Gandhi, his party's vice-president's statement but he does not shy away in saying the appointment of Army chief is out of norm. Also I'm surprised Karan Thapar did not raise a question/comment about how demonitisation has broken the backbone of the cash based industries like human trafficking and terrorist organizations!

janta is suffering from severe finincial crisis. There is no cash in ATM machines and the banks are paying limited cash on cheque that is only 4000Rs after standing four hrs in bank Queue we janta didn't face this type situation before. And janta is not happy with this.

vivin panicker dude, that's the whole point. You can stand in line for hours but it won't be beneficial. People who have black money, bought gold and property. Demonetization is not the answer for black money. When the new notes come, corruption will resume.

Karan Thapar does every attempt to make P Chidambaram say that demonetization is failed policy though former is much balanced. As an interviewer your job is to stay neutral keeping aside your biases and let interviewee express their opinion. Its harder to change at older age but as interviewer he should strive to become better

How is my privacy compromised if I pay my bill digitally in a drug store?!? The credit receipt is not a prescription which will list out what medicines I'm taking. N the government is NOT forcing you to use card for peanuts n popcorn, when Mr. Modi said India should be a digital economy I think it is common sense that he must mean for transactions above Rs. 500.

Sir Chidabaram,...Please read my comments. I live in Norway, and hardly use any cash except in some small migrant shops. Our economy is 90% cash Swedish economy is even better. Please do not misled the reporter. You should know better. ! I think you are biased. You feel like..you could have done it before. However I understand, India will have hard time being cash less. But Cashless means when you have majority of transactions are without cash. Any country having over 80-90% transactions cash less, must be considered cashless. USA is a backward country in this sense. ! Scandinavia is most advanced in that sense. Also check South Korea. They already have had mobile banking many years now.

What steps did Chidambaram take against black money when he was FM? On the contrary, he got a treaty done with Switzerland to hide transactions done before 1 January, 2011.
