Description:
For the first T-shirt weather flight of 2024 I decided to visit Oostende-Brugge (EBOS). This was the only international airport in Belgium where I have not had a visit before, and during the previous months the runway and most taxiways got resurfaced, so it was time to go! Furthermore, I have NEVER flown over the Belgian coast before, which is almost unbelievable with "so many" hours in my logbook.
The flight there was pretty uneventful, the landing all right, but I very much enjoyed taxiing behind a follow-me car to my parking spot on the apron in Oostende (which was also a first in my pilot career). I knew that visiting aircraft get this treatment here, so I was looking forward to it, and it was as cool as imagined ;)
After a long chat with the friendly ground personnel, I walked across the dunes and along the coast to the new casino building in Middelkerke and back, enjoying the warm weather.
On my way back to base I flew along the coast to Blankenberge, then took the shortest way towards Charleroi - passing over the historic city of Bruges. At EBCI I got to race (and defeat) a Ryanair to land after a direct - very - short final, and vacate to the left already at Sierra 4 (the first exit to the left), which I don't think I have ever done before (or maybe with an instructor very early in a Sonaca 200, but I am not sure).
After all it was again a flight of a lot of firsts: landing at EBOS, follow-me car, flying along the coast, and direct short final followed by an expedited runway exit at S4. It was a fun afternoon, enjoy the video record of it!

I was your controller that day. Thanks again for your perfect short landing 😉 I hope I didn't put too much pressure on you, don't hesitate to protest if you are uncomfortable with our requests. But you managed very well. Talk to you soon !

So great to have you here too! It is a privilege to be given such a special attention in the Belgian airspace, and being called by name never gets old, it always feels special! So thank you and everybody at EBCI and Brussels FIS. And "negative" and "unable" are in my dictionary too, no problem, but I am always up for something new (within safe limits of course). 😎

The unexpected short final is fun and great to land in front of the airliners. I could also land once via a short circuit before an A332 of Egyptair in EBOS .

Great as usual, Peter ! You did very well with the Ryanair....i could imagine the pilot staring at your plane and already thinking of a go-around ! And the controller did also a great job to allow you to be number one, by asking Ryanair to reduce speed.

Indeed, it was a good team work with ATC, I left in all the relevant radio calls to the Ryanairs on purpose to illustrate how everything came together 👌

Hi Péter! Great videaos, thanks for sharing. I really appreciate to discover the Belgian airspace through your videos. I am a private pilot with a French PPL. Leaving in Belgium, I am looking for a place to rent a plane. Could you tell me where are you renting it? Thanks a lot and keep going.

Hi, thanks! I am at Air Academy NewCAG, this is where I got my training too. They do also rent for pilots who did not get their licence there as far as I know, you could always contact them and ask around. Cheers!

Very nice flight Peter, with a perfect landing at EBCI just before the liner and a runway vacated via S4. 🎉 Solo and consolidation done for me, Monday I began the Nav flights. Thanks for the video that help me a lot. Next step FI ?

Thanks for watching, and good luck with the NAV flights! Soon you will have your first solo NAV, and to me that was the point where I felt like a proper pilot for real :) FI is a possibility for the future, I would likely enjoy doing that part time and I am thinking about it, but I am not yet 100% convinced that I want to go through with the whole CPL theory for it though :D We will see what life brings, for now I am just enjoying flying and the new experiences that it brings ;)
