To Live and Die in LAyton: Blackpool
Ойын-сауық
I take you on a tour of the streets of Layton in Blackpool. Situated between the eastern part of the town centre and the large Grange Park estate, Layton is one of the oldest parts of Blackpool and it has a certain charm about it.

Some folk say Blackpool is a dump. They can think again with areas like this in Blackpool.
Thanks again for another interesting vlog Stephen i hope you are well
I love old farm houses
I loved this, my fiance is a tour guide at Layton Cemetery, who's known as the Cemetery Lady, I'm sure Deborah would help with a return visit.

I stayed in layton for awk at my friend's house, she lived near layton primary. And subway was my favorite place to go to for breakfast. Absolutely beautiful place is layton.
I was born and grew up in Layton. I haven't been back for years and it looks very different now.
Loved this video Steve. A completely different side of life in those parts. Being a "southerner" from Kent it was a real eye opener. More like this please.
Ooh I remember Layton Flats a tiny bit notorious 😂 im sure the residents were glad to see the back of them the area looks much better & im gonna go out on a limb & say most of Blackpool was built between 1920 & 1950 because Art Deco is everywhere ❤
These videos are why so many send you gifts , excellent information and calm delivery well done young man
Please do a video of the Layton cemetery .. graves are really interesting and full of history. I'm about 30 miles away up in yorkshire and my small town is dedicated to cleaning up one of the main cemeterys and keeping it tidy as it was so overgrown, the council never cut the grass so a local group has been set up and we are all dedicated to keeping the graveyard looking good 👍 especially as there are Commonwealrh War graves inside 👍😁

Please do a vlog on the famous graves in Layton cemetery, also please can you do a vlog on Carleton Crematorium as there's a few famous graves in there that you could vlog and mention, Charlie Cairoli the famous Italian clown from the 1980s, Jimmy Clitheroe, remembered for the Clitheroe Kid programme on BBC radio and Violet Carson from Coronation Street during the 1960s for example, Frank Randle, Norman Evans, Beatrix Potter had her funeral and was cremated in the Crematorium building too and then buried up in the lake district, just an idea for a future video to document, thanks once again Stephen for the awesome content as always I've enjoyed watching this!

The bowling greens you showed as you viewed it right side is mens and the left women's. There has been a water leak in the corner where the cones are for 20 years or more the council aren't interested or the waterboard.

Thank you for this Stephen I was born in Victoria hospital and my first home was Victory Road. I paid a visit to the cemetery in 2003 as I have a few family members in there but I didn't get much chance to look around the area. Thank you for your video.
A brilliant video as always
Lots of memories ! I lived 1A and 64 Drummond Avenue !
Can't wait for the proper cemetery video 🙌
Thx for this, I grew up in Layton off Torsway not far from Kingscote park aka “the flashings” which you missed ….used to be a nice manicured park to play footy on but now the Council have turned it into some kind of overgrown thing. That whole area is more smaller 1930’s houses. I haven’t lived in Blackpool for a long time and it’s changed quite a bit over the years but Layton still has a lot of memories for me.
Layton Cemetery contains the graves of 139 Commonwealth service personnel of World War I and 39 of World War II, besides, from the latter war, 26 airmen of the Polish Air Force (whose headquarters in exile were in Talbot Square in the town), and one airman of the Royal Yugoslav Air Force. The grave stones are at the back of the cemetary looking out onto Mansfield Road. There used to be a small hedge round the plot, but not sure if it is still there.
Very nice Stephen 😊
Stephen, a very interesting video and one of personal relevance to me. My direct ancestors lived in Layton or Layton-with-Warbreck as I understand it was known from around 1850 until 1900 when they moved more into what is now central Blackpool. I believe than back in the day (until the early 1800s) Layton was the main of population along with Poulton while Blackpool was much less developed and was only absorbed by Blackpool in the middle of the century. Most of my ancestors are buried in Layton Cemetery including an interesting and at the time well known character who was referred to as "Jungle Jim". All the best.
Thanks again for the video Stephen, never knew Blackpool had such beautiful areas.😊😊😊
🎶 Hooray for Hollywood 🎶 😂 What a lovely area Layton is Stephen, so many beautiful properties and trees! Hopefully this will shut the people up, who say you only show the negative side of Blackpool.Thank you, that was such a lovely walk xx

Lyncroft crescent opposite the RAOB was my great Uncle johns house where I stayed many times on family visits and round the corner on onslow road was my Nan's house but don't think hardly any of the shops are the same; that "posh" barbers used to be a bank of course and the tower blocks were a familiar landmark but they did have quite a reputation

Happy Childhood memories
Very many years ago, the Vicar of St John's church in Thornton once said to me, about Layton Cemetery "That is one place that I'm always relieved to be able to come back out of every time I go in." Well , on one occasion, unfortunately, that didn't happen.
You can imagine those houses back in the day with kids playing outside, no cars, mums chatting buying stuff of delivery carts, etc.

Thankyou for this blog I was hoping you would mention joe I went to his funeral not the actual buriel but the church and his wake I have been there with flowers it's usually covered with them even though its been 4 years went to see him in Blackpool and beyond for more than 40 years and he was one of the nicest and talented people you could wish for we have a group on Facebook and have get together to reamer mber him usually at his museum I am going to let them know about this and to look out in case you do a full one in the church yard I know they will be just as thrilled as me thankyou x
Also stephen I was told that Joe's house backs onto the cemertary and there is a bench near his resting place that we all put money to with a plaque on it thankyou
Does anybody know why so many houses in Blackpool have that distinctive brick garden wall with the smooth curved top? I've never seen them anywhere else in the country but Blackpool. I noticed there were quite a few properties at the beginning of the video at the "posh" end of Layton with them.
@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool
Жыл бұрын
I think the curved coping stones were made be Accrington Brick, so that may be why they are common up here. A lot of houses have some Accrington brick, but cheaper properties may have just the front using them & posher houses would have them all round.
@BUZZJC4Y
Жыл бұрын
Yes Accrington brick. They are quite strong bricks and used for the foundations of the Blackpool Tower and I think the Empire State building. Accrington is only about 29 miles from Blackpool.

RAO stands for Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes. A very good place to have a drink or two and a game of snooker
R.A.O.B is the Royal Ancient Order of Buffalo's (The Buffs)
R.AO.B.Stands for Royal Antedeluvian Order of Buffalos often known as The Buffalos or Buffs. A fellowship that does charitable things. I am not a member as I wouldn't join anything that would have me as a member.
