This is great. I always thought 'llevar' and 'traer' had the same meaning and were interchangeable but now I know better. Also, it's easy to remember which one to use when if I think about the phrase 'para llevar' which has the meaning of ordering some food 'to go'. If you order 'to go' from a restaurant, you are always taking it with you - they're not bringing it to you, so it's 'llevar'. Thanks for the excellent lesson.

I wish I had Anna for my Spanish teacher when I was in school. She makes learning fun, humorous and memorable. She is better than any of the "Apps" that are being touted as a simplified means of learning Spanish. Wonderful job, Anna, I look forward to engaging in your tutorials and feel both comfortable and confident in my ability to converse in Spanish. Besides....you have a cute personality too, which helps stay engaged. Thank you.

Using 'llevar' seems to be the same as 'take' in English. 'Take the cake' and traer 'bring'. Love your lessons. Thanks Anna.

I've been teaching myself Spanish at home and the way I understood it is that llevar also kinda means to carry so it's like you ask someone to bring you something and then they agree to carry it to you

Thanks Ana for another very useful lesson! What helps me keep these two verbs straight is to think of llevar as "delivering" something somewhere. I think of traer as someone bringing something to my location.

Also note the translation of "Do you want me to bring something?" "¿Quires que lleve algo? Lleve is the SUBJUNCTIVE form! The subjunctive form is always used after "Do you want me, him, her, us them TO DO something?"

For the lazy its a Y sound. For those who want to sound more fluent its almost a hard J sound melded with a Y Como se llama (jYama)
