In Kayfabe, The reason why Roxxi's Voodoo Drop is so effective is becuase she plants her opponent directly on their cocyx, compressing the spine, while she mitigates the direct force of the drop by spreading it out through her ass and legs. It's like taking a back bump while slapping the mat: widen the impact for minimal damage vs landing on say directly on your hip which hurts a lot more.
@karrodead
Жыл бұрын
I was just about to say something similar. It's like a more devastating version of the Bubba Bomb, similar idea, but both Bubba and his opponent get to mitigate the area of damage to their legs as well, however with Roxxi's only she gets to lessen the damage, but her opponent gets full brunt of it.

I love the little restrospective on Don West's life. Great tribute to a man who entered as an outsider and he became a cherished memory in wrestling as part of an alternative. I'm really looking forward to this arc. RESPECT!

Sting was just another body builder scouted from a Gold's Gym who got fast tracked to the top pretty damn quick. Samoa Joe spent quite a few years cutting his teeth in the indies. Guaranteed Joe got paid $20 to wrestle in high school gyms in front of 100 people FAR more often than Sting ever did.
@humdrum229
Жыл бұрын
@@Bubba__Sawyer Disagree. Wrestling after Y2K is far less house shows. SJ I am sure had his fill of crap gym shows but even Indie wrestlers made minimum $50 in the early millennium. And Joe di not know what it was like being on the road every single week. Sting got into the business in 1984, that is all wrestlers knew back then. No weekly TV, no PPV's, just travelling from one small ho-dunk town to another and then back again. Day in and day out. 340? Probably not, but listen to Cornette talk about the 80's and he will tell you that it was pretty darn close to 300 days on the road if not a little over.

I’ve actually heard a lot of wrestlers from the territory days say that they got 1 weekend off per month. The rest was either working or traveling. 2 days once a month for 12 months. 365 days in a year, I don’t doubt he’s actually telling the truth…
6 seconds in and I'm already pausing to say well done lads at the Don West tribute. Was not expecting the V1 voiceover. I know you guys were mad crazy for TNA at the same time I was and his energy brought so much to the product of those pre-Hogan years! edit: The section covering his career was well done and I always felt the same way. His green-ness at the early portion was forgiven due to his passion and energy.
Not only was I at this show live, but I was seated by the entrance ramp. You can actually see me a couple of times in this video, so from now on, I'm telling everyone I've been on OSW. Nothing but good memories of this show. I'll remember Abyss going through the flaming table and Samoa Joe's stair bump until the day I die. This was my favorite wrestling show I had ever seen live until Revolution 2020
R.I.P. Don West One of my all time favorite wrestling commentators. He had a great voice, enthusiasm, and genuinely loved wrestling! I was devastated when I heard the news that he died.

I was happy to see Don West finally getting some appreciation. As a fan of TNA back in the day, he hardly got any love at all, even in his later years in the company when he improved out of sight. He was very underappreciated for the longest time.
I still think its hilarious that the lyrics to "cross the line" have the gem "no possibilities, for originality". Boy when it comes to the usage of WWE stars they hit the nail on the head
Bitter sweet episode... Loved the PPV, loved the bollocks... But its heartbreaking being reminded how AWESOME Don West was. You boys did him supreme justice here. Great Episode lads can't wait for more ❤❤❤
I think Michael Cole's previous work as a war correspondent definitely helped him weather the storm that was Vince. It's plain to see in recent months that a weight has been lifted and he's actually having a bit of fun with his calls. Even if it is at the expense of Top Dolla.

Best part of the early MEM stuff is Booker switching between King Booker and Classic Booker T from sentence to sentence. Also dressing like Leopard Collar Destro that one time.

Sunday depression officially cured thanks to the lads! So glad to have another arc even if I never watched TNA before. Much love boys.
So happy you're doing this arc. I caught sporadic TNA episodes during this time and saw the Main Event Mafia but had no clue how they formed etc so this will be educational as well as entertaining
R.I.P. Don West. Commentary on TNA/Impact hasn't been the same without him.
For Mr. OOC: Roxi is in control of the drop. You'll see there's a pause when she sets it up, that's so the person taking the move can't prepare for it. They're in a hammer lock, so the shoulder gets wrenched. They're also in a front face lock, so their neck gets cracked against Roxi's shoulder joint, increasing the impact. Sometimes she releases the head when she drops down, so they acordion in and then slam back into the mat. The key is in how unspecific it is. A piledriver is all on your neck. This targets a little bit of everything, like a car wreck.
Man I loved Don West...still sad about that one. You can tell the wrestlers loved him too because half of them went out of their way to interact with him. Gone way too soon.
Its insane that i can watch a new episode start to finish, and then cycle back to the start for a second watch through to catch whatever i might have missed, and i dont get bored at all. Such an incredible episode as always! Classic wrestling payperview episodes will always be my favorite!
Always a treat when the OSW boys go back to TNA
The thing I always notice above all else in these older TNA shows is the energy and excitement and unique perspective Don West would bring. It felt very different than WWE felt at the time, not just his gift of gab which was amazing, his energy was contagious.
I didn't know Don had passed away. I had the good fortune to meet him and speak with him several times in the early years when TNA was just getting off the ground and was filming at The Asylum. I even went to a live taping. Very sad news.
Never watched TNA in my life outside of OSW but always happy for more content from you guys!
The referee strapped to the roof of the cage peeping through the hole like a pervert. Amazing
The Bum Bum drop works because while you’re folded up like that it snaps your spine in twain.
I remember when Double J turned up in the Royal Rumble, just before his HoF induction. He was in the match for, a couple of minutes, maybe, and still, all I thought was "Get this guy in NXT or the PC to teach people how to punch"
OOC's reaction to Peyton Banks might be the most visceral reaction I've heard him give on OSW.
I cant imagine the amount of heat that Angle/Jarrett feud would have gotten if Karen had been apart of it. That shit was already heated but that would have made it nuclear because they were both shooting HARD. In hindsight...OOF. Double OOF for Angle.
I never thought I’d see a Curtis Granderson retrospective on OSW! Good guy, sent me an autograph when I was a kid and I am forever grateful.
34:26 The difference is that in 2008 social media was in its infancy, and internet usage wasn't ubiquitous and had yet to turn society into hyper-reactionary weirdos. It's not that people may or may not have found it offensive and more that giving out took more effort, and thus the vast majority of people couldn't be bothered. These days getting offended and letting everyone know you are is incredibly easy and consequence free. So we get knee-jerk reactions to *everything.* Every molehill is now a potential mountain, every person is now a potential nutter, and it is incredibly easy finding like minded people to fan the flames thanks to the interwebs. The more internet and reality merged, the lamer both got.

I campaigned HARD on wrestling forums for TNA back in the day. WWE tards just refused to ever give them a chance. I feel like 2006 was when WWE majorly dipped in quality while TNA was firing on all cylinders, especially when Kurt Angle signed. The fact that Genesis 2006, headlined by the first match between Joe vs Angle only got 60,000 buys, while the atrocious December to Dismember got 90,000 buys 3 months later is such a grave injustice. Wrestling fans really are fickle. RAW had DX vs The Spirit Squad in every main-event for 6 months straight. Smackdown had Fit Finlay in the main-event scene...... TNA had Angle, Joe, Styles, Christian, Abyss, Daniels, Low-Ki, Sabin, Shelly and so many more great talents. _"The production value isn't as good as WWE"_ _"RAW on Monday nights is part of my routine"_ _"WWE entertained me as a kid so I owe them my loyalty for life"_ Fickle.
@elneco4654

I'd say it probably wasn't as big as the part management played into it. For every talented young guy and big star that could still go you had lots of exes that went there because Dixie knew they were (moderately) big names and would pay a lot for them (IE Rikishi, the NAO, Dustin Rhodes) while the ones that did actually carry the company got peanuts and had little reason to stay in (Also, the whole "Vince Russo is here in secret" part). And of course the eternal obsession with WWE that was just nauseating. Then the 2010s come in, Hogan and his guys show up, the cycle repeats and even worse, because now not only they take over, but they also make sure to destroy whatever TNA had built? Samoa Joe? Nation of Violence. AJ? Turns heel and becomes mentored by Ric Flair of all people. Abyss? Might as well change his last two letters to "tch". What's worse, they barely make an effort to get new talent and the one they have slowly slips down their fingers. There was a lot of good things about TNA and WWE was doing so bad in mid-2000s, they had a huge chance and somehow didn't capitalize on it.
Angle truly is one of the best of all time, glad to see the boys giving him his flowers
Absolutely amazing. Can't wait to see the rest of this arc play out :)

As someone who grew up with 00’s tna as my introduction (and fav period) to wrestling and that got back into wrestling thanks to osw this has made me so happy. Really enjoyed this and can’t wait for the rest! Grma buachailí
The GTAngle cutscene intro is the best so far! Excellent work as always noggers.
