Me and My brother and My cousin had pretty every turtle toy from the soft heads to the blimp, pizza thrower, and such. I loved all the TMNT and Motu toys. We were really into action figures as kids from Rambo, Bravestarr, Gi Joe, star wars. Of course Being in my 40s now wishing that I had all my old toys. Great Video!!!

Fun facts: Mark Taylor the toy designer for MOTU have finalized and improvised these TMNT figures and vehicles before they hit shelfs.... (I just watched 'the toys that made us' lol)

fun fact about the cartoon/playmates colors. if anyone remembers the titlecards from the episodes and wondered why mike was holding swords and the pizza eating leo seemed to be more a mikey pose its cause in earlier stages leonardo was gonna have the orange and mikey the blue bandana

I’m really glad they switched them. Blue fits Leo and Orange fits Mikey so much better than the reverse.

My nostalgia links to the soft head turtles. I was 7 in ‘88. I remember seeing them just arrive at my local Child World. The different color skin tone was awesome. Leo is my favorite. Raph is my least favorite.

You can use a nail clipper to cut off the leftover plastic from weapon rack off the handle of their weapons.

I have all 4 soft heads and love them. Sadly my Mikey is facing the same issue with the spots showing up. I’d love to know more about what cause’s this and if there is a way to stop or prevent it.

I’m not sure. I think maybe the plastic is breaking down, but I don’t know.

I had all four of the original 1988 turtles but they got thrown out,but i did manage to buy the 2013 release of these,and i think there available again for 2021

I never thought about discoloration with ninja turtles figures, but it happens a lot with old Star Wars figures. It's usually due to prolonged exposure to sunlight, or heat. Probably also just from being played with, and flat out age. It's also caused by just natural degradation of plastic as the chemicals and oil slowly leach out of them over time. Eventually, probably long after we are all dead, they'll all be discolored and brittle. But really ... For toys that the oldest examples are 35 years old? They look pretty good.

Agreed. I just hope the don’t melt and all of my Nintendo games don’t stop working in the next 40 years.

@@razrentals8897 thankfully it should take longer than that for plastics to degrade. Keeping them in a temperature controlled environment and away from sunlight will do a lot to conserve their condition for a very long time. And modern lights are far less damaging on them as well which helps. A U.V. protective case of some kind well help immensely if you want to protect them and preserve them.

@@razrentals8897 electronics are kind of the same. Keep them clean, temp controlled, etc. The harder part may be keeping the original Nintendo systems going. But they can be fixed.

@@artstudent1255 yeah that’s true. I’ve been thinking more about the games and I Haven’t really been thinking about the systems as much, but you need them too! Some of the clone systems are a decent substitute, but you usually can’t beat the original.

I was able to go check on the weapon plastic. I was very very particular about my tmnt figures when i was a kid, I still have all my originals! I used to put everyone's weapons with the figure they came with on my toy shelves. Now when I saw the better looking nunchaku with darker plastic in this video I wanted to go check if they came with mine, I have 2 sets of soft heads and one set of the hard heads from a 4 pack was gifted to me back in the 90s. Your soft head nunchaku's are thicker plastic and look like they must be the first production run, they resemble the movie star mikes in dimensions. Now both of my soft head Mikey's came with the darker plastic colour but are much thinner and are exactly the same as the ones that came with the hard head bar the colour, I'm in the UK so I assume by the time they hit the stores here they'd already made some running changes before stopping the soft heads completely and moving on to the hard heads. Shame because the thicker nunchaku are so much less likely to break =(

Awesome thanks for letting me know what you saw with your original guys. I can't believe you took so good care of everything. I destroyed most of my stuff, but not on purpose. I just played very carelessly. Did they stop including Nunchaku with Mikey in the UK or did he always have it? I was wondering if they started censoring him in the show right off the bat or if it took awhile.

They also came with color Variants to the belt initials.

Thanks for the video dude...But I have doubts, look, I found in a Flea market, a Mickey figure, it's hard head and in the shell puts 1988 mirage studios...So my doubt is: It's original or a reissue from 1998 or the nexts reissues?? How can I know it? Big hug from Spain!

I was able to get a moc 1988 shredder unpunched made in Macao . Off eBay the other day.

I’m not sure. You can always search on eBay and look at the sold listings.

Still have my Donatello but I got a stand for him because I was scared he’d break from falling

I knew the soft heads existed!! I thought I was crazy lol.

Both was 4 at the time. Everyone else have vivid memories, and I feel like I was in jail lol wasn't aware of jack yet besides the toys.

We both favor the softheads...I'm 43 and I've noticed newer collectors like the look of the hard heads......that's okay they are all awesome

Total Classics, how long have you had these original figures for? If you had them since childhood, then you’re a better person than me. I lost my originals long ago.

Haha no they’re not my originals. I’ve pretty much had to rebuy everything since I graduated high school. There’s only just a few things I have when I started collecting toys in late middle school. Everything I had before 7th grade I played with until they broke. I use to demolish my toys because I loved making stories and having them fight etc. I’d bury my guys, attach grocery bags to their shoulders and throw em off balconies like they were parachuting, freeze them, take them in the tub. I was reckless, but I was a really happy kid making up all my stories. Around 7th grade is when I started to collect toys to keep on my shelves or moc. A lot of my legends of the dark knight series 1 figures came out around that time. Pretty much everything tmnt I own I’ve been collecting since 2002. I’m a slow collector because I like to get good deals. Last year I bought a huge tmnt collection off of someone, it was their child hood toys and it was pretty much every figure from 1988-1991 plus vehicles. I had a bunch before that, but I got more soft head figures, variants, and figures that were in better shape than the ones I collected before that. That’s what helped jump start my interest in starting a channel.

I like the hard heads the best because it got the nice shine as rest of the body. While soft head have more smoother look to it so it doesnt have the same shine as the plastic bodies.

@@razrentals8897 btw man, I have some belts which is black, but the letter is colored with the turtles bandana colors, so Don get a purple D. Which series do these belts come from and is they originals? They do look exactly like the original with yellow letters. Thanks!

I like the overall shiny pop of the hard heads, but the soft heads have a more cartoony look to them that I slightly prefer. Something about them in the soft heads looks more...cute, dare I say? I know some TMNT fans want their Turtles to be grittier and "darker" but I'm a cute Turtles guy all the way. That's why I'm so glad the new Playmates re-releases are doing the soft heads.

Haha, remember what they say, different strokes for different folks! I’ve been able to pick up the new Don and Leo, but I haven’t seen Raph or Mikey yet. The heads are a little bigger than they use to be, but I thought it’d be interesting to see how they look compared with the old soft head figures. I don’t know if playmates has released soft head reissues before how.

which ones came first? The soft-headed ones or the hard-headed ones?

Probably not. I don't know enough Transformers history to really talk about them unfortunately. The one I used is the Walmart rerelease so I don't have the trailer. I use to watch the show as a kid, but I never had any of the toys. I'd only get to play them when I went to my cousin so now I only pick up my favorites like Optimus, the Dinobots, and some others. I'd love to get a complete Ultra Magnus or as I use to refer to him as a kid, White Optimus Prime. I watch The 80's Transformers Fan a lot on here.

It’d probably be a good idea eventually. Most of the soft head figures I’ve seen have plastic spots. If you switched them you wouldn’t have that problem, but it wouldn’t be original. I’ve been wanting to buy an original April without the blue stripe for awhile now, but they all have spots all over the so I never want to spend the money on one.

I’m hopefully getting the soft head turtles for my birthday

I have a Leo with all blue belts and u can open the shell

When I first saw these toys I already knew the comics. I didn't like the different greens and colored bandanas. I had 4 Raphaels and put the others gear on the other 3 Raphs. When the cartoon came and was a hit I changed them all back 😂 used the extra Raphs in trades

Haha, I never knew about the mirage comics until the mid 90s. You had the opposite experience most kids had. We all saw the cover of the first nes game and thought “why do they all have red headbands?”

@@PixelzNcreatureZ yeah good question. Maybe they just thought that cover by Dooney was one of the best Turtle pieces they had at the time. Who knows? I’m glad they used it though. Dooney has become one of my favorite Mirage artists.

@@PixelzNcreatureZ yeah it was the cover to mirage issue 4 second print. The original cover is very similar by Eastman and Laird, but in their style and black and white. I think some green too.

I had all 4 turtles plus Rocksteady & Bebop with soft heads first. Then the following year for Christmas I got a full set of all 4 turtles and Rocksteady & Bebop again. Sadly, me being 7 years old, I opened them. No idea why I'd open the same figures. But I guess that's what kids do. Really boils my blood at the age of 40 now knowing I could have had those still in package..lol

I feel your pain..I did something similar with the original soundwave with buzzsaw included..im 45 years old and im still scratching my head on why I opened the 2nd soundwave when I already had a Soundwave already opened with lazerbeak..smh..

Damn, wait real ghostbusters toys was only around for under a year until tmnt showed up? Thats wild. All these years my dumb ass thought they were around 2 or 3 years before tmnt got hot lol. No wonder these companies are barely showing rgb love.

Yeah, I love the Ghostbusters, but TMNT gave them a beating in the toy aisle. The Real Ghostbusters cartoon is way better though. I think most of the first 75 episodes can’t be topped by the other 80s shows. Even some episodes after Lorenzo Music got fired are still great.

I remember though everyone I mean everyone had raphael figure and brought him to school for show and tell. This had to have been in 1rst grade. The soft heads came first, they're the original ones.

Imagine of our 30 something old toys were as critical as we are of them now....lol most of them aged better than us...I'm 40 now, yikes.

We’re all getting older unfortunately haha. I’m still 36, but not for much longer. Lately I’ve been thinking how weird it is that I could live another 37 years (hopefully! Haha). As I keep checking off my wants what will I collect in that time? Hopefully TMNT is still going strong. It’s crazy how it always keeps coming back.

im not a fan of the soft head turtles. I prefer the same material for both the heads and the bodies. the seems dont really bother me. also the glossier shells is a subjective thing.
