@@silvernight7971 I love that version too. He put so much thought, effort and passion into it. I just got so used to the voices Robert Inglis uses for each character and the tunes he uses for the songs they sing ect. I fell in love with his version before the movie even came out.

@@jennifermcdonald5432 Have you heard the Andy Serkis versions?? they're amazing as he's a brilliant actor, and also as one of the actors in the films (he acts as Gollum) he captures some of the film magic in the other character's voices too :D (I'd read the books myself multiple times before the films even came out, but Serkis still captures a special kind of magic)

Rob Inglis is the best voice actor - hands down. I have this whole set on cd's. I have read these books at least once a year since the 1970's. Once my vision started going, I found these - and now I can listen to the books once a month!

@@garlicjrmade6409 Yes. I have listened to it before, but his voice didn't appeal to me. In some parts it was really good, but other places it irritated me. I know he is very popular, and I am happy that his version is there for those who prefer his version. I think what bothers me about almost every other person who voices this series is that they seem to have a hushed, breathy tone - especially for Elves, like they are trying to sound sexy or something. I don't know - it's hard to explain. I know each individual has their own preference of who reads & does voices. I was very impressed with Phil's skill & talent. I think I just have an unusual aversion to that kind of voice. Almost all the other voiceovers for these books seem to have that one distinction. For me, Rob Inglis' voice, a deep & strong one, is very appealing. And his attention to detail in how he voices every different character just blows my mind! Each Orc has a different voice, which really impresses me! Have a wonderful day!! 💜

Thank you to the person that told me it was Robert Inglis narrating this book. He does an excellent job with the narration and while his singing is 100% better than anything I could do, I believe he could have left that particular skill out.

I started out listening to that version. After the fellowship I couldn't find the rest so, started again with this one.

I've heard multiple readings n his voice is the most soothing. Andy serkis is just too much drama !!

The edition he is reading from was edited by Tolkien himself and included contractions in some places where later they returned to uncontracted form later. The stories are so old that there are many differences between some editions.

A “thank you” really *is* insufficient. If I had any money I would donate to you and others bringing great books here. After the accident; during the last 3 months -- stuck in a hospital bed, literally unable to leave it, often unable to move for hours at a time... I am uncomfortable and monotony wears upon me. With family able to visit only occasionally; and for tltr reasons often unable to read myself, manipulating books or other items; with television a sickening vacuum for intellect -- it is *this* “long playing” audiobook and other audiobooks of the same format that have been the only thing to distract me from the difficulty I find myself in. As I stated above, “thank you!” is woefully insufficient, but... *THANK YOU very much!*
