Titus 1-3; Philemon - The Bible from 30,000 Feet - Skip Heitzig - Flight TPH01

Paul's brief letter to Titus focuses on Titus' role and responsibility in the organization and supervision of the churches in Crete. Throughout the letter, Paul also stressed the importance of sound doctrine and church order. In Philemon, on the other hand, the apostle took a more personal approach and spoke on the application of the great principles of Christian brotherhood to social life.
This teaching is from our series The Bible from 30,000 Feet - 2018 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

I have an honest question. The Sabbath was given at Creation, and God reiterate this when giving Moses The Ten Commandments. God's wording to His people was that they should "Remember The Sabbath and keep it holy." Though I have not been a Sabbath keeper, I am considering this. If you see this post, I welcome your thoughts.

Hello @gaelicsmile thank you for watching Calvary Church online! In your quest to understand how we Christians are supposed to observe the Sabbath. I will point you to Matthew chapter 12. A passage whereby Jesus Himself speaks on the topic. While I will encourage you to read the chapter for yourself the question is not "do Christians need to keep Sabbath?" but rather "can we serve God in a greater capacity by showing Christlike love on the Sabbath?" www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+12&version=NKJV Good luck! - Miguel R. “Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 👉Let us therefore celebrate the festival👈, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ Why did Paul say this??? What if those who are returning to the feasts of the Lord and His sabbath aren’t the ones who are divisive??? What if those doing these things are being led to by the Holy Spirit??? If this man’s argument sounds convincing, a full look at scripture will reveal whether it is true, or not. The gospel and Jesus Christ whom you love are depicted in the shadow of the feasts. We have been given these in order that we might dwell richly in His love and mercy and grace, whether we choose to abide in His shadow… “but I preferred to do nothing without your consent in order that your goodness might not be by compulsion but of your own accord. For this perhaps is why he was parted from you for a while, that you might have him back forever,” ‭‭Philemon‬ ‭1‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ Peace!!!

How is it does it an expository Pastor skipped the verse declaring that baptism is necessary for salvation. No conversation no reading of the verse just simply skipped it in the the book. Titus 3:4-7 (NAS): 4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Hi Mr. Lee! I'd like to offer my "two cents." I don't think we can interpret, from the verses you mentioned, that baptism is necessary for salvation. The word for "washing" in verse 5 does not necessarily refer to "baptism," but can be interpreted as a symbolic washing or cleansing. When interpreting the Bible, we must not form theology from one verse, rather we must look at the whole counsel of the Word. "The entirety of Your word is truth" (Psalm 119:160). For instance, when Jesus speaks to the thief on the cross, Jesus tells him that "today you will be with Me in paradise." (Luke 23:43) Obviously, the thief could not get down from the cross, after his profession of faith in Jesus, and be baptized. Yet, Jesus assured the man that he would be saved and with Jesus in heaven that very day. John 3:16, Romans 10:9, John 1:12-13 and other verses tell us that the ONLY requirement of salvation is believing in Jesus (meaning to have faith in, trust in, reply upon and adhere to). Though baptism is most definitely a REFLECTION of one's salvation, it is not a REQUIREMENT of one's salvation. Again, just my two cents. I hope you have a very blessed day!

Also, the Greek word for "washing" here is not baptizo, referring to baptism, but loutron referring to bathing.
