Title Screen - Mario Kart DS - Deconstruction with Oscilloscopes

Ойындар

This video deconstructs the Title Screen track from Mario Kart DS in the form of oscilloscopes, notes, and separated sounds to get a better understanding of what is included in this song.
Original track is composed by Shinobu Nagata.
I decided to do some more research into the process and came out with a much easier and less time consuming alternative to making these videos. I think it's a lot cleaner now, and translates the oscilloscopes very nicely. I also chose to do another MKDS video because why not.
If you have feedback don't hesitate to leave a comment. Thank you for watching the video.
I have original tracks too! Most of them are chiptune:

On a really simplified level: 1. I used vgmtrans to extract each song from the rom 2. Exported the songs into the highly compatible midi format with sf2 3. Deconstructed the channels to my liking in a generic music software and exported each one into a streamed sort of file (mp3, wav, etc.) 4. Put each file into SidWizPlus which does all the oscilloscope work. If SidWizPlus doesn't work that well I've heard of Corrscope but haven't given it a try. It may take some time to render. Hope this helps, if you have any questions I'll try my best to answer them

@@slumburger1145 if I remember correctly, when you export a midi in vgmtrans you are also able to export a soundfont file (sf2). This essentially applies the instruments to the corresponding channel. Just make sure in your music software that you have a feature to overlay the soundfont on the channels. Hope this helps!

The DS outputs everything at 32768 Hz (It's mentioned in the official hardware docs). So yeah it is downsampling the result. So that explains everything huh? The DS still has that thing of older consoles, when there's no room for sound effects, some channels stop playing to give priority to the sound effects. I don't fully understand the audio chip's capabilities on the DS but it's clear that some work was put into making the real instrument samples sound right, or working around limitations where that wasn't possible. The bass and piano are really clear sounding (the attack varies nicely based on the "force" or volume of the sound). Strings and horn have always been complicated to sample, seems they really went all-in on the electronic vibe instead of hyper-realistic with those, I like it honestly.
