Far too chonk for me. Most watches are ok for my wrist, but this is too big. I just want others to compete in the same space. Nothing against the Tissot, but it is a bit too much of an AP copy for me, and I prefer watches that don't come from a behemoth corporation (that isn't in the top league). And as I said: just far too big. I recognize that the PRX chrono is a hell of a watch, only matters of taste and its size will make me not choose it! Hell of a watch. So many other great mechanical watches that are perfectly good in quality, Swiss made, Swiss movement etc. and affordable that I'd wish they'd make chronograph versions of. And many others have beautiful original designs too. Like Victorinox INOX. I hope others are paying attention to what Tissot has done.

I've got the original quartz prx, and I love it. It may be a slightly large watch but it doesn't wear like one. I find the integrated bracelet does a really good job of keeping the watch sitting in the right place on my wrist. I also very much enjoy the butterfly clasp Tissot uses. I can say from experience that these watches always get a head turn from experienced watch enthusiasts. I've worn mine into multiple watch stores that sell Rolex, Patek, and other luxury brands, and have always been asked by the sales staff or the service techs what it was that I was wearing. I think these watches punch well above their weight especially given the retail prices, and although I wasn't enamored with the waffle dial automatics the panda chronograph has definitely got me thinking there's enough room in my collection for another prx. Thanks for the great review as always. I would love to see a video one day about Ball or Rpaige watches. Cheers.

The GPS-Chip sits in the watch unused. There is no payment chip (which would've been such a simple and cheap addition). Etc. It's a shame... And then you see all the features the Alpina AlpinerX Alive has. Granted, that one has worse battery life, but I'm sure that'd be a solvable issue for Tissot.

Thin mechanical chrono is mostly a rich man's game. Anyone who is used to wearing chronos won't find the thickness unusual. Anyone who wore a (then) new watch in the early 2000s won't find the 42mm a deal-breaker either. For me, the Powermatic is the winner in this line.

8:05 Surprisingly the this is one if the cheapest valjoux based chronographs in the market, valjoux 775x (/775xbase) equipped watches, especially with similar finishing usually go for >$1900 (e.g. hamilton) The 60hr power reserve is also a nice edition not found in the usual ~48hr of the valjoux 775x. Although the thickness, sizing and loss of a free sprung balance is a drawback in comparison to the powermatic 80

This Tissot gives Royal Oak chrono vibes. It's a nice watch and fairly priced. The Seiko is quite expensive but Yema sells a chrono with a Seiko NE86 automatic for half the price. It's difficult for any brand to make an affordable automatic chrono because the movement is way more expensive to make than a three hand one.

There's no question that I must stand on Andrew's side about this. I would talk a Tissot Automatic Chronograph over a TAG Heuer Quartz Chronograph seven days a week and twice on Sundays. Having said that, I speculate that Tissot will release a Quartz Chronograph version of the PRX for far less money. I believe that they released the Automatic Chronograph first because the price disparity will be staggering and they knew if they released the Quartz version first, it would cannibalise the sales of the Automatic. Having said all of that, I don't believe that the PRX Chronograph is an unbeatable bargain because, to me, the Seastar 2000 Professional stands alone. It's like getting a Planet Ocean for just over $1000. That value definitely beats the value of the PRX Chronograph because the utility of a chronograph in this day and age is dubious at best but absolute indestructibility and impervious water resistance will ALWAYS be of great utility. As nice as the PRX is, I don't find that it matches the beauty or the durabilty of the Seastar 2000 Professional. Maybe you should feature THAT watch, eh? *wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more!*

@@rosschops9509 accuracy sure but also looks. I'm not en entirely a fan if either. Something about premium entry level companies that doesn't sit right with me. As Andrew looks at the positive and talk about value for money, I am more of a cynic. (Unless i am mistaken) I see the same movement year after year with a different dial, band or hands etc. But they tend to crank up the price on some pieces just because of the aesthetic. In this case where Andrew sees a bargain, I look through the window and see an over priced piece that pushes the boundaries of what it wants to be vs what it actually is ( value wise). the line between lower value and higher tier watchmaking shifts and people accept. I'm all for diversity, but that doesn't mean I have to like the end product either. I'm an A. Lange & Söhne fan through and through, there's other brands I appreciate, but only Lange gets my love and desire. I absolutely love learning about the different watches that come on the channel though. Listening to Andrew is whimsical and Tom is like that friend who's laid back and just a bloke of a character. I understand this was farther in depth than anticipated. In short I'd say I am a mechanical movement only man. But the match up here, Tag wins because of the above mentioned. Which I stills talking a lot without saying much.

The charm of watches with integrated bracelets like the Royal Oak are how they fit around the wrist and taper to make a well fitting thin watch. This is just too thick at nearly 15mm and much too wide unless you have a very large wrist. Reminds me of the thickness of a Seamaster Chrono. Works it you have a large wrist, not for the less than 7.5 inch wrist. Pretty watch with a limited audience.

I do think chronographs are a cool looking complication and I would like to have one in my collection, but I just can't see wearing a 14+ mm case under any circumstances. I would take a hand wound version of a lot of these if they were under 12mm in thickness at the same price, otherwise a quality quartz chrono movement would actually make a lot of the sub-$2k chronos more appealing in my opinion. I'll probably end up buying a $200 Seagull 1963 to scratch the chrono itch and save up and save my pennies for a nicer option like a Speedy or El Primero.

It's a very cool watch... I really wanted a watch with integrated bracelet and was enthusiastic about the valjoux... I tried it on it's too big for me and I don't have a small wrist... Very top heavy! But it does look very nice... when you don't wear it... The Valjoux is well decorated at that price point... But a lot of people won't be able to wear this watch, it sits kind of weird and the bracelet is not that good. I would have bought it just for the movement! 😜 Instead I got the Maurice Lacroix Aikon, only a SW200 but the watch look is spectacular, very well finished, beautiful bracelet. And I got a very good deal on it! 😉

Sapphire casebacks are also a decent way to validate the authenticity of a watch without having to open it if you are buying preowned. Without the same tooling, you can't replicate a movement 1-2-1. Even if you modify a movement to look like another one (e.g. the Rolex 3135 being a mass forged movement) you have dead giveaways that you can tell relatively easily.

As a PRX owner with a wrist big enough for it not to look ridiculous I am a potential buyer. The one thing I would say to any other potential buyers is try before you buy. The PRX feels like a watch built to a price which for the quartz version feels like incredible value for money, I’m not sure I’d feel the same, even if I’d bought the Powermatic version never mind the chronograph. The edges of the bracelet aren’t that well finished, they feel sharper then they should, the clasp is ok for a £300 watch, but I’d want a hell of a lot better in the £1500 price bracket. I have the solar Seiko as well but I’d still like a mechanical chrono.

I really wanted to like this (and 'face on' I do), but the PRX style is a well fitted, integrated, THIN watch. Its one of the few watches I would consider getting the quartz over the automatic, just to get the case even thinner! I wish they did a 2 hand version in quartz (without a second hand) that would be super slim - and would hide the quartz movement! It is nice however to see this movement used in an affordable watch, and more choice can only be better, but its just too thick!

  • @piccalillipit9211

Try it on your wr4ist before buying as a TOO thin case make the links of the bracelet not sit right especially if you have a larger wrist. The problem wit these integrated bracelets is they ARE limited on wrist diameter V case dimensions to look correct. Still unsure about the Tissot PRX Chronograph. The usual alternatives mentioned are the various Hamilton Intra-matic chronographs. Instead of the Hamiltons, do consider a chronograph from another brand in the Swatch Group - the Mido Multifort Patrimony Chronograph. The pricing splits the difference between the Tissot and the Hamiltons. The black dial version at £1,610 (list price) is only £110 more than the Tissot's list price of £1,500.

Mechanical Chrono movements are very expensive, especially Swiss Ones. There is no pure mechanical Chrono movement south of $1000 short of the Chinese Seagull 1963. Ronda makes a nice quartz chrono movement in the 5030D which mimics a 12 hour mechanical Chrono pretty nicely. It retains the standard 30/60/12 subdials and will time a full 12 hours A 54 month battery life is nothing to sneeze at either. But since Tissot and ETA are both owned by Swatch group, the idea that you would see a Ronda movement in a Tissot quartz chrono, is a non-starter, to say the least.
