    Looks like a very good value. Looking forward to seeing how this one shoots. I like to remove the factory oil from guns prior to firing them. I'm sure a few boxes of ammo through a gun with the factory oil in them is fine BUT not all gun manufacturers use oil the same way on new guns. Many times the oil we see on new guns is there specifically to keep parts from rusting/oxidizing and not for proper lubrication. I find this especially true on guns shipped overseas as they may be in storage and on the water for months before we purchase them. On brand new gun I've found all sorts of odd smelling, odd colored oils sometimes combined with fine metal chips & grit from manufacturing. While it may be going overboard I field strip new guns, clean them and then oil (and grease where applicable) them properly prior to shooting them.

  • @GBGuns

    @GBGuns

    11 ай бұрын

    That's the way to do it. We run guns out of the box simply to replicate the worst-case consumer experience. If while shooting we notice that a sluggish action is to blame for problems we'll stop, explain, and properly lubricate.

I will be getting a more modern 1911 stainless from them soon! I have no issues keeping this GI model for a bedside gun! 230 grain HST out of a full size 45 is hard to beat! I know that, most modern guns don't have a problem with this sort of abuse. But, I still "Wince" every time I see it done! AND I can hear "Ruff and Gruff" old Sargent Carlson LOUD AND CLEAR, "Don't you go doin' sxxt like that when I'm trainin' ya Boy!!!!" Sorry! Once something is "Programmed" into your brain, at age 19, YOU NEVER CAN UN-LEARN IT !

    Its sad Americans cant make anything close for less than a grand. Money is tight right now. Id like to get a new 1911. And support America but they sure make it hard when you find out some companies outsource to korea and the phillipines. And still want a thousand dollars.Ive racked the slide on a couple less than 400 dollar tisas. And you can tell they are built right. You can get one of these for less than a ruger. They are making lower cost pistols with aluminum frames. Id take a lightweight commander. But still not a fan of aluminum frames. I just bought a baby rock because i like its size. After a trigger job its not bad. Now i want a fullsize. Im saving for a well made no mim parts gun. It leaves few options. Production guns made in USA are hit and miss. Im looking into smaller shops. I hate to pay 999 for a base colt. When there are a few smaller shops if you catch a sale you can get a much nicer gun. Made from trick parts. American companies are more worried about the shekels the unions and the insurances and govt bullshat. Sad times.

    Yeah, I appreciate that people have groceries to buy and budgets to mind but if you can afford to buy a $600 Turkish 1911 today, you can afford to buy a $1000 Colt a month from now. Not knocking Tisas or even jumping on the "Made in America" wagon, but if you buy a 1911 (or really any other firearm) try and consider the legacy factor. My favorite guns in the safe aren't the ones that were the "best guns for the money." The favorites are the ones that represent the commitment I made when I acquired them, either through hard work and saving or by inheritance. Sorry, but you kids will NEVER say "yeah, I love this old Tisas that dad used to shoot." Again, if you can afford to buy a $600 Tisas today, you can probably afford a Colt or DW a month or so from now.

    Haha. Probably😆 Best to think of it as a rite of passage. Yes, this 1911 looks tempting and Tisas does know what they're doing, however...it's still not a pride of ownership gun. The problem is that it's price is inching closer to that boundary between the "beater" 1911s I love to shoot and the nice ones I only bring out occasionally. At above $600, one might just as well save for a legacy investment 1911, heck $1000 to $1100 will get you a lower-end Bul Armory.

    I guess that "Cheap" is not the best description for 45 pistols. There are layers or categories of cost, engineering, and perceived value. Unfortunately we have Glock to thank for the offerings today. If something like this had been around in the mid 80s there would have been no issue with purchasing something like this. To point, I came across a Tisas A1 that had the full boat customizing performed for the low price of $1800. Personally don't know if that was worth it or not. This model screams for a mill job for a red dot. I know every manufacturer does things to distinguish their offerings. What is up with slide lightening cuts? Do they really serve a purpose? The cool kids i guess would do press checks. You pointed out the weight difference as not significant. Have you found any information on the grade of Steel in this non MIM parts example? One would assume some sort of Carbon and assume no way on a Stainless variant. Cerakote will wear in or can be massaged to desired slickness. The thing on this model, is the front strap checkering offered at this price point. Money well spent or Bubba Smithing would make that trigger much better. A trigger job and Red Dot might break the barrier for a sub $1k 1911. I've seen this model below the $600 dollar mark on sale.

    That's what sold me on this pistol. Even if the trigger was unacceptable, aftermarket triggers are cheap enough that this pistol is still a deal. The cerakote does need some wear on the rails before this gun will be smooth though.
