The history that led to the rise of Lalithambiga here is related to the Bandasura Yuddha.
A demon named Bandasura was doing many cruel things to the gods and sages and was giving trouble. They prayed to Mother Parashakti to protect them. Responding to the request of the Devas, Parasakthi emerged from a Velvi Kund on the Sri Chakra Rath with the name Lalithambigai to slay the demon.

திருமீயச்சூரில் வீற்றிருக்கும் இறைவன் மேகநாதசுவாமி என்றும்
முயற்சி நாதர் என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்.
அம்பிகையோ லலிதாம்பிகை என்ற திருநாமத்தில் அழைக்கப்படுகிறாள்.
இவளுக்கு சவுந்தரநாயகி என்ற திருநாமமும் உண்டு.
சூரிய தேவன் சுவாமியையும் அம்பாளையும் யானை மீது வைத்து மேக மண்டலத்திலிருந்து பூஜை செய்ததால் சுவாமிக்கு மேகநாதர் என்ற பெயர் ஏற்பட்டது. சூரிய பகவான் கருமை நிறத்திலிருந்து மீண்டதால் இத்தலமானது ’மீயச்சூர்’ என்று வழங்கப்படுகிறது.
இத்தலம் ஏராளமான சிறப்புகளை தன்னகத்தே கொண்டது. சூரியதேவர் வழிப்பட்டு சாபவிமோசனம் பெற்ற ஸ்தலம்.
அதீத சக்தி மந்திரங்களை கொண்ட ஸ்ரீ லலிதா சகஸ்ரநாமம் தோன்றிய ஸ்தலம்,
சனிபகவான், தருமதேவனான எமன்,
கருடன், அருணன், வாலி, சுக்ரீவன் ஆகியோர் பிறந்த ஸ்தலம். நமது ஆயுளை தீர்மானிக்கும் எமதர்ம ராஜா தனது ஆயுளை நீட்டித்துகொள்ள தினசரி உச்சிக்கால பூஜையில் மேகநாதசுவாமிக்கு தனது தலவிருட்சமான பிரண்டையில் நைவேத்யம் செய்து வழிபடும் ஸ்தலம்.
இங்கு சிவபெருமான் சுயம்பு மூர்த்தியாக கிழக்கு நோக்கியவாறு அருள்பாலிக்கிறார். இவர் திருஞான சம்பந்தரால் பாடப் பெற்ற இறைவனாவார்.
அன்னை லலிதாம்பிகை இங்கு ஸ்ரீசக்ர பீடத்தில் ராஜ சிம்மாசனத்தில் அமர்ந்திருக்கிறாள். அபய, வரத ஹஸ்த முத்திரையுடன், வலது காலை மடித்து இடது காலை கீழே தொங்கவிட்டவாறு அற்புத தரிசனம் தருகிறாள். வலது காலை மடித்த அம்பிகையைக் காண்பது அரிதிலும் அரிது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
இங்கு லலிதாம்பிகை ஸ்ரீசக்ரபீடத்தில் மனோன்மணி ரூபமாக அமர்ந்த கோலத்தில் காட்சி தருகிறாள்.
ஒரு காலத்தில் சாபத்தால் பீடிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த சூரிய தேவர், இங்கு வந்து வழிபட்டு, தனது சாபம் நீங்கி, செவ்வொளி பெற்று இன்புற்றதாக தலபுராணம் கூறுகிறது. இது காளிதேவி பூஜித்த தலமாகவும் போற்றப்படுகிறது
அம்பிகையின் மிகமுக்கியமான ஸ்தோத்திரமாகவும்,
அபூர்வமான மந்திரச் சொற்கள் அடங்கியதுமான லலிதா சஹஸ்ரநாமம் இத்தலத்தில் தான் தோன்றியது. அன்னை லலிதாபரமேஸ்வரி அகிலம் சிறக்க தனது திவ்ய நாமங்களைக் கொண்டே வசினீ தேவதைகள் மூலமாக ஸ்ரீ லலிதா சகரஸ்ரநாமத்தை உருவாக்கிய தலம் திருமீயச்சூர்.
