What a master class vocal performance. George covered many songs throughout his career, and he always elevated It and made it better than the original. He was so incredibly gifted. I read somewhere that his contemporaries said they never liked it when he covered their songs because it seased to be their's. This was from the beautiful Symphonica European tour. He was almost fifty during this tour and his voice was still impeccable. ❤

George is absolutely Amazing! No matter what George sang there was always a heartful meaning for him personally, I believe. George had a special knack for you to reach down into your heart & soul to feel reality. He went through many of the things we all go through at one time or another. That's a big one for me! I could always find some relief & comfort in, my sorrow & even some of my pain from George & still do today, he has been there & understands. However, I never forget who I want to spend the evening with, George! I can shake my booty, sing, cry & celebrate at any time. With George, I cannot sit down when he starts with his magic. I never had a better time! George is the most Beautiful man inside & out. There's so much to learn about the true Beauty from the inside that many do know about. Either about total ignorance, money & greed. Apairtly that was their oxygen. I'm from America & I love my country, However, with what was done to him is Dispickable. He tried to rise above It but It got to be too much. He always loved his fans, and that never stopped! He kept the love of his fans close to his heart. George never said any nasty words about anyone. He had grace & class, yet never spudded hatred against anyone! In this song, I hear sadness & truth, which along with many good things, a man who was real & honest. George didn't deserve any of It! George messed up a few times (not demeaning It in any way) Yet he owned up to It & took his restitution like a man. However, When he was unjustly criticized or accused of wrongdoing, he spoke the truth as well. Anyhow, I'm sorry I went in a few different rants but I'm 100% with George, he did not try to fool anybody! Great song magnificent voice, & a big, big heart. LOL, My friend, Always remember George & keep the music playing! One suggestion of George's magnificence, BROTHER CAN YOU SPARE A DIME! ( Poverotti & Friends) This will blow your socks off! ENJOY! BK 🕯😇🎤🎼🎵🎶🎶💖

Please, please listen to George's version of Stevie Wonder's "They Won't Go When I Go". I have yet to listen to that song and not be moved to tears. I know that George had his issues and that he would often lament that there are so many people who call themselves Christians but never at like one. The one thing I can tell you is George knew God and if you don't believe me, just listen to this song. I don't care if you react to it on your channel just listen to it. There are parts in the song where George is layering his vocals one on top of another. The sound is powerful and soulful. I think the song is about false friends and what it means to have a relationship with God. George recorded a number of Stevie's songs and they had a good relationship and they did a couple of live duets of Stevie's songs. I know George loved Stevie. I was watching a documentary about George and Stevie acted like he was shocked to learn that George wasn't black. He was like, 'wait, George isn't black? It was pretty funny.

In other videos I've seen of George performing this live, he says that he originally thought that Rufus was American and that perhaps because of that, the American's wouldn't get upset with George for singing something critical of America. But, he further explained, during rehearsals he learned that Rufus is, in fact, Canadian. So, American's might still be ticked. "C'est la vie." He said.

On another note, I have noticed that you seem to enjoy Babyface a lot; I suggest you listen to "How come, how long". It's a powerfull plea against domestic abuse, and a very good duet with Stevie Wonder. I don't know why there are so few reactions to it, it was huge when it came out. Take care!

I hadn't heard this one before. I find that he lost a bit of range/power in his later years, maybe because he smoked a lot of weed. 🤭 But this is a really emotive performance. I still think some of his best vocals are from the early 90s - definitely check out his cover of "Somebody To Love" (both the rehearsal and the Freddie Mercury telecast are amazing in their own ways) and "Freedom" the MTV 10th anniversary special (which I think is better than the later Unplugged version - again better vocals because it was several years earlier). He was just so frickin' cool. #RIP

I've never heard this song before. I don't know who Rufus Wainwright is, but I have heard his name at some point. So, they are tired of America? I love George but I did buy everything he recorded. I'm going to have to look up the lyrics. I don't understand why they are singing this song. Anti-war song? GB has been in all of the big ones and small ones like Grenada. I may have misunderstood Johnny, so I'm going to look up the lyrics. However, this performance was so spellbinding.

From memory, I think it was inspired by a trip to Berlin ("a town that's already been burned down") and its something about learning from the past about the effects of war. I think this was around the time when the war in Afghanistan was happening after 9/11. So I guess there's something about being tired of America getting involved in / starting wars? Rufus is American but grew up in Canada. I think there's more to the song than any anti-war stuff, but it's in there somewhere

OK, Songfacts to the rescue! ""I'm so tired of America" Rufus Wainwright sings on this protest song. At the time, George W. Bush was seven years into his presidency and had escalated the war in Afghanistan. "I had no intention of writing 'Going To A Town,'" Wainwright told Q magazine, October 2007. "It just came out in 10 minutes. I actually enjoy living in New York, enjoying the spoils of empire. That said, the political situation has become so horrific on so many levels that I don't think anyone can help writing about it." The town Wainwright refers to in this song is Berlin, Germany, where he met his husband, Jorn Weisbrodt. He made much of the Release The Stars album there. "The song is about going to a city that had already been destroyed and had learned its lesson about the horrors that humanity can inflict," Wainwright told Rolling Stone. "I felt like the US had no sense of the damage they were about to cause. People reacted very strongly to this song. I would sing it often and get boos." Gay marriage, which was not yet legal in most of the US, was a hot topic around this time. In this song, Wainwright takes aim that those who use religion to argue against it: Tell me, do you really think you go to hell for having loved? Tell me, enough of thinking everything that you've done is good I really need to know, after soaking the body of Jesus Christ in blood Wainwright married Jörn Weisbrodt in 2012."
