    If u wanted quiet &long wear; u should’ve sought a solid center rib, all weather touring tire. This 1is going 2b noisy. BEST PRACTICE: The rear camber setting s/b between -1/4 & -1/2 degrees. She will corner better &maintain a flatter tire patch during stress. I would only run 0 degrees rear camber if I were towing routinely w/500lbs tongue weigh or more. These should’ve come w/OEM rear adjustable upper control arms.

    Thank you for this detail about why the tires wears on the inside because i was toldi needed a rear suspension to correct the wear on the inside. Now they tell me im.burning oil the prior mechanic that did my oil change never mentioned.

    As a tire guy, I would certainly recommend snow tires for snow use, not “mud & snow” tires, or mud tires as these appear to be. The main two differences between the two is compound, which is designed to stay soft in freezing conditions, and the amount of tread “sipes” in the tire lugs. These aren’t going to be great in the snow, but you will find that out soon enough. As someone from Michigan, I personally have two sets of wheels/tires, one for the summer, with mud & snow tires, and another with snow specific tires, which I swap yearly. If you have never experience actual snow tires in the snow, the difference can be nothing short of overwhelming. I remember the first time I put a set of snow tires on my car and went out into the snow. I was actually pretty upset that I didn’t know how much of a difference true snow tires make until that point. I would honestly choose front wheel drive and snow tires over all-wheel-drive and mud and snow tires in the snow. Since I’m in California right now with my element, it doesn’t make sense for me to have two sets of tires so instead, I have Michelin LTX tires on my car which are in my opinion the best compromise in case I do need to go in the snow while also having an excellent ride quality, with low road noise, and lasting longer than most other tires of this type.

    I just had rear Adjustable Control Arms, rear sway bar links, and both front axle shafts, hubs, bearings, and both lower ball joints replaced. getting the alignment tomorrow but so far everything handles better and is quiet. Next, I need to replace the breaks and look for suggestions.

    Those tyres make it look like a beast. So with your spare tyre is it a space saver (skinnier and cant got above a lower mph while driving) or did you get the spare just as a normal 5th wheel? I got a flat while everyone was leaving camping last weekend and i had a space saver. Gotta buy new as mine are getting a little bald from cornering too fast as well. Lol. Thinking of upgrading my spare while im at it. Tyres arent cheap and id need another mag wheel as well, so still deciding. Ive got time to decide as im stuck at home all bandaged up. Turns out my sunburn wasnt healing so the hospital took a couple of layers of skin off bandaged me up with silver foam and now healing. Its brutal but watching your videos have been a good distraction.

    Oh my god sorry to hear about the sunburn that’s crazy! I hope you are feeling better now. Also the flat definitely sucks too but thankfully you made it out of there lol. I have plans to add a full size spare on top sometime in the future.

    @@StephenAldaco thanks mate, unfortunately the 3rd bad thing happened a week ago. 2 out of my 3 dogs got into a bad fight and one got put to sleep and the other cost $1200 in vet bills. So now the sunburn and the flat don't seem so bad. Watching your videos do make me smile as it takes my mind off things and I can imagine what I want in my future. A badass Element.

    Is there a reason you sized down the tires back to the factory 215/70? You were running something larger before, right? About to make this same tire decision, and was curious about your decision making process on size with the factory 16” wheels

  • @StephenAldaco

    @StephenAldaco

    Yes I went for smaller because I wanted better gas mileage and did not go off road often enough to really need the larger tires. Also my older tires had a ton of road noise the smaller tires seem to be way better as far as noise goes. Let us know how it works out for you!

    My element has wear in the middle of the front tires too, like more balding than the outer edge. I wonder if that's just an element thing?

  • @StephenAldaco

    @@StephenAldaco On my 2007 I get as high as 28-29 mpg even though I have aggressive tread tires in the front. I keep the speed around 75 and rpm around 2200. This is in FL so flat highways and with no AC. At first the two tires up front seemed to make a lot of noise and had greater rolling resistance than the rears which are actually the same exact tire but the company changed the tread pattern/design. After a couple of thousand miles on them they seem to have improved. I have been following you and Miquel for some years now - hope to finally see you two one day at a meet.

    @@StephenAldaco Oh there are a couple of people I have come across on the groups who also get 28-29 on the highway. Mine is a 2007 EX 2wd, so 5 speed automatic - I keep it around 2250 rpm and 72-75mph on the highway. Last year I went to Columbia SC for thanksgiving from Orlando and we were 3 individuals with luggage. Filled up the previous day so did a few miles in the city b4 hitting the highway, Stopped at Brunswick GA (217 miles) and the needle was at half tank. It was cool so no AC and I-4 and I-95 are relatively flat so good for mpg.

    How difficult is it to replace the upper control arms and my rusty rear knuckles and eccentric nuts and bolts? My mechanic won't give me even a ballpark estimate without doing a whole inspection so I'm considering buying the tools to do it myself.
