    I use a small block, so it actually flattens the nibs, I also usually just do 2000, 3000, and then CSI Ceram X Polish, its the bomb

    Be sure to use a clear with catalyst. Put on the correct amount of clear. Try to get slick as possible to eliminate orange peel, thus creating more sanding. Then wetsand and polish

    I’m not a painter or detailer but after 3 tries I finally got a beautiful paint job with clear coat and wet sanded everything now all I need to do is buff it out but I’m afraid I’ll mess it up, I have an air operated buffer from a friend of mine that used to do this type of work, how much pressure do you use ? I’ve watched a lot of videos but still nervous

  • @TAZattitude

    @TAZattitude

    2 ай бұрын

    To start off with, try a larger flatter surface and just use the weight of the buffer (assuming it's a professional type buffer with a 8" pad). You want to start with an easier panel so you can get used to it. Or practice on your car. Just watch the edges. Always run the pad 'off' the edge and not onto it. Good luck

    Hi Scott Question.. Sprayed my friends Kawasaki ‘classic’ need to send it 350 miles by courier.Sprayed almost 3 wks ago with USC01. Have foam to pad then bubble wrap then foam peanuts.Thinking of initially wrapping parts in microfibre cloths then clingfilming in place.Cloths have a slight texture but are high quality. Worried the pattern might inprint on clear.What would you initially wrap in?Never boxed & posted before & am uncomfortable doing it. Cheers for any response.

    My wife always did the packing. Shipped well over 1000 sets. She always just wrapped each in the foam insulation, then bubble wrapped each part. Put the parts in the box, then fill with peanuts, or other filler. The keys are to make sure that you keep the parts away from the sides best as possible and put enough filler in the boxes to keep them from moving around.

    What liquid wax do you use at the end? Is safe on fresh clear? Thanks

    I use a 'body shop safe' wax. It's in the pink bottle hanging on the top of the bench. I can't remember the name of who makes it. Smells like strawberries lol

    I see people bondo there tank even when there's no dents? Why? Do you have to to get a good finish?

  • @TAZattitude

    @TAZattitude

    3 ай бұрын

    The only reason I can think of is that possibly it got sandblasted or stripped and it got warped. OR, it's an aftermarket raw tank. I've had to coat aftermarket tanks completely due to bad quality. Harley tanks are good quality and do not need to be coated with bondo

    Was this tank painted only before you started the wet sanding or did it have clear coat sprayed on it as well?

    I had painted the tank with a basecoat / clearcoat. I hope that answers your question.

    @TAZattitude thank you. I wasn't sure, as I had seen someone use 1500 to wetsand after painting and then clearcoat over that. Then wetsand again. I guess with us amatures, there is plenty of conflicting steps, so a guy doesn't know what order to proceed with.

    How many coats of clear do you usually put on as a final clear coat before buffing and polishing?

  • @TAZattitude

    @TAZattitude

    Normally I put about 4 coats on. 2 coats, then I double coat the last coat. I do use a High Solids clear though.

    Cool, will have to try that. I've been putting 5-6 on to get depth in the paint. But I like the the depth you're getting on your paint jobs. Doing a lowrider style paint on a road king an looking for more of deep layered look in the finish. Appreciate the information. Have a great one and look forward to your next videos.

    @@johnholley7749 Be sure to use a good 'wet' clear clear. Also, try to make sure that the surface is 'flat' or very close to it even before wetsand and polishing. Wetsand with 1500 if you have a nice surface. The key to depth is to get all orange peel out and make sure the graphics are completely flat (no edge) after wetsand and buffing. Great video. Just one question, is the start with a tank that just has paint? Or paint + clearcoat before you began doing this?

    I'd say know. The paint is thin, and I believe it's a single stage. Easier just to remove and paint. You'll never get it glossing enough to match new paint

    No color code, just call up a local jobber and and tell them the year, harley, Black Cherry. Be sure and purchase the better grade paint. Cheaper paints won't have the correct pearls in it. I use PPG Deltron. you can also order from the ColorRite website.
