I’m in the process now of getting my license. I plan to take and pass the state exam in December and want to hit the ground running come January 1. How soon is it appropriate to begin interviewing at brokerages? Should I start now? November? Or is it better to wait until it’s pretty close, like December?

Great question and thanks for asking it! Ideally, you'd interview when you have a real estate license. In the meantime, we recommend putting together a list of brokerages you'd like to work for. What are your top 5? Top 10? Maybe see if you can find some realtors who work for those brokerages and you can pick their brain about it. What kind of assistance and mentorship do these brokerages offer? What are their resources? Find out this information and add it to your list. Then, when you have your real estate license, you have a list of brokerages you like, contact information to people you spoke with, and a list of their perks. Deciding which brokerage you want to work for will be easy for you and you don't have to enter any interview unprepared. Best of luck on the real estate state exam! Please keep in touch and let us know how it goes.

It didn’t. I started right before Covid and frankly the market here is SATURATED with real estate agents. I’m fine with it now though. Huge waste of time and money. When you look at the stats on agents and how many make little to no money…it’s almost a bit of a scam.

CAN YOU SAY "OVERPAID" profession.......really 6% commisions in real estate transactions.....do any of these "professionals" WARN you about the ridiculous property taxes.. Texas rips off homeowners ??.....take a 2 week class, pass a test, and now you are a "professional".... skip the realtor, negotiate your property...buying or selling ( DEDUCT 6% IMMEDIATELY)...buyer & seler win

I warn my clients about taxes and often encourage them to get a lower price point so there is wiggle room for tax increases. I promise it doesn't take 2 weeks. real estate agents have to pass 180 hr course and take 7 exams. not all agents are the same.
