    You are welcome. When Randy and I first went up there we though we were gonna go up there and crush them. We were put in our place very quickly. It took us while till we could go up there and consistency get hookups. We did this video because we figured there were other people who struggled like us. Thanks for watching.

    steelhead can't see flouro in sunlight, it refracts light, chameolon is the best line for abrasion, but absorbs light being a solid color, worst line too use in low water in bright light. I stopped using maxima chameolon in late 1980's, switched too maxima ultra green, give ultra green a try.

    I thought the same thing when I started fishing up there as well. But i tried using fluorocarbon with low clear water and the fish would not touch it. As soon as I switched to maxima chamelon I started getting bites in the same stretch within a few cast. When it comes to fishing a lot of it has to do with confidence. If you have more confidence in fluorocarbon then by all means continue using it. Flourocarbon is a great line. I just have more confidence with maxima as my leader material.

    I honestly do not fly fish I use my spin reel to save money. As far as rods go I primarily use St. Croix because they are sensitive and they are reasonably priced but beyond that I do not know.

    I do not fly fish because of the added expense of buying the equipment. I do not really have any specific tips for fly fishing unfortunately. The only tip i have is to use shooter line. What I have noticed is a lot of guys who use fly fishing gear are not purest. They often put split shot on their line and bottom bounce. They basically fish like spinning reel fisherman but with a fly reel. This method actually allow for more accurate casts and it also faster which allows for more casts. The tips in the video I used for patterns such as when to switch from egg patterns to black stone flies applies to fly fishing as well.

    how long is your leader and how far up do you place your split shot

  • @randsoutdoors7346

    @randsoutdoors7346

    5 жыл бұрын

    My leader is about three feet long. I will roll out an arms length of leader than tie that to a swivel. My arms are about three feet but from know tieing it does get trimmed down. As far as split shot I will put it on the tag end of the knot from the main line. This way the split shot slips off without having to break the entire rig. As said in the video you get stuck a lot up there. This method of putting split shot on not only saves money but also keeps you fishing.

    columbia you've VHKWD firearmsff there is access all over the river from Port Ontario to Altmar. My best suggestion is google salmon river fishing map and there will be resources from the NY DNR on where you can access it.

    First tip get a fly rod you can't fish right with a casting reel if you strip line on a casting reel it's illegal

  • @randsoutdoors7346

    James Williams thank you for the tip but I do not use casting reels for steelhead or salmon I use spinning reels. Although I see the advantages of using a fly rod I personally do not feel it is necessary to spend the money and buy one.
