I would always take my vizslas to largest park nearby and let him go. On weekends we would go to forest preserve and just let him run. I love watching the dogs run. They love it…and need it.

You are doing a great job with her, Justin. I just got another Puppy and named him Bodhi. I lost my 10-year-old boy a year ago, loved him more than you can imagine. Now I have 2 Vizsla's again and we are having a blast. I love the breed and agree with everything you say in your videos. Great work my friend. Keep the videos coming and pet that beautiful dog for me!

Your dog reminds me of Bella, our female that passed away 6 months ago. She really was a special dog, but required a lot of exercise just like you say. She didn’t slow down until she was around 9. We loved her so much we are getting a male Vizsla in the middle of March. Same breeder. He was born 5 days ago. I’ll be doing what you n do for your beautiful Vizsla, all over again. Bring on the good times. Thx for sharing your video

Try using mind games. Sit, stay, and then go hind some pieces of food and make him find them. The brain uses more energy than the body. After 4 miles the dog body is tired, but the brain is going 100mph. Work the brain just like the body. You will see a difference.

I know this video is a few years old now, but I found it as I'm thinking of getting a Vizsla to task train to help me as I'm disabled. I've always had rescue dogs, my last dog was an ex street dog who just would not stop, they could go all day and it still wouldn't be enough, it was the task training that really calmed them down and helped them to focus. Are Vizsla's THAT extreme in their requirements? We would go out for a four hour hike, come home, the dog would take a nap for 10 minutes and then scratch at the door for another walk.

We have a 14 year old Vizsla her name is Vesta. We take her to the off-leash park for about an hour and we do this daily. She is in amazing shape for a 14 year old. Most people are surprised she is as old as she most thing she is 6 to 8 years old. This is the first year we will not be hunting with her. :-( If you know what to expect with the breed and willing to put in the effort they are an absolutely wonderful breed, HOWEVER if you are not then please do not get one.

Hello, Justin, I've been following your videos for a long time and I find them very interesting. I do not think anyone has made a video report so shallow and well done, since when Fifa was a puppy. In a while I want to get one, but I have some doubts about the characteristics of this breed. I live in an apartment, but I also live long on board a sailboat in the Mediterranean Sea. I would like to know if vizslas are suitable for life on boats. I have friends who have retreivers and they adapt very well. They are happier on the sailboat than at home. They are 2 and when they hear the word home they escape hehe. But I throw this race back because they have problems with their hair because they take a long time to dry, although they are wonderful. But the vizsla is incredible and very affectionate. Thank you, Justin for your videos and advice and I apologize that you have to use the translator. Thanks for everything, friend.

Thanks, Paco! I'm not an expert, but I'd guess that Vizslas wouldn't do well living on boats for extended periods of time on the sea. They need to get all that energy out. Unless the boat is docked? That might be okay as long as there are places nearby to run them.

  • @aprilcropper8499

I think that a V would do fine on a boat as long as you include some exercise each day - swimming works very well. Fetch in the water is fun too. Vizslas dry off very quickly - I don't have to worry about mine being wet at the end of a hike like I did the Labradors with a thicker coat. The super thin coat does equal less shedding, but it also means that they get hot fast in the sun. My V is happy running around in the winter than in the hot summer sun. The sun just bakes right through to their skin so they get hot more than you would expect, and that may be worth thinking on too.

I have taken mine on 5 mile runs and that had 0 affect on his energy level. He’s calm when it’s just me and my wife. Include our two boys and it amps him up. If any guest comes over he is out of control. I’ve taught him place but that leaves me hovering over him while we have guests.

I've grown up with them and have my own now. Mine loves being in his crate, as long as he's had morning exercise. At lunchtime he gets let out and we play in the garden for a bit and then he's fine until I take him out again when I get home. If we have people over and he's had enough socialising, he'll take himself off to his bed 😅 I have found the anxiety can grow as they get older. I did have one that has always suffered with it though, we did have another v at the time to keep him company so wasn't as bad. They can be a pretty highly strung breed but if you have a consistent routine and have time for them, they're awesome dogs

Killing your dogs energy by throwing a ball 100times is not the right way to do it. Your just damaging their joints and bones. A vizsla is a smart dog with lots of energy. Making him think will exhaust him much more and give him a balanced lifestyle. Teaching him tricks or doing agility training is much more efficient and satisfying for the dog and the owner. My vizsla is being trained to become a search and rescue dog. Which gives him both mental and physical training. He is balanced and not overloaded with energy or always looking for a ball he can chase after. After all a vizsla is a hunting dog that likes to used his nose and find game.

I agree it puts a lot of pressure on their joints, especially when they're stopping quickly. It's a lot of stress on the shoulders and hips. I have a GSD so has a similar energy level and she will chase a ball all day if she could. I have a few field nearby and change it up every now and then so there's different smells etc. Viszlas are scent dogs too so hide some treats in the garden or a snuffle matt as they're great scent games to stimulate them mentally.

I have a Vizsla/Lab mix. My dog is on another level of hyper than any other Vizsla’s I have come across. My dog LOVES to run. Poor dog has had 2 surgeries one on each of his legs for medial luxating patella. He was hit by a car as a puppy and his legs got stuck in a storm drain and really messed up his knees but even with all this he loves to run. This dog runs 20 miles a day! He has run up to 35-40 miles in a day and he wants to keep running. They have told me he would run a hundred miles if I let him and I need to stimulate his brain so he doesn’t wear himself out. We do puzzles Ana all kinds of mental stimulating activities because I have found it impossible to wear him our physically. Poor dog loves to run so much and it’s so unfortunate that his knees were damaged. I can’t believe someone just hit a dog and left him there on the road like that. I’m so lucky to have found him. I made sure he got the best surgeons and best care possible. Also if you take ur dogs out in the wild make sure you get them shots for leptospirosis so they don’t get sick from the water.
