Coast of Maine products are so nice. I wish they were more readily available. Good to know the seedling mix will hold up for soil blocks.

Looking forward to them. I will not be using any peat as a matter of principle, so there will be some fun experimentation to find something that works.

5: 40 in : You could try planting easy to grow Comfrey [Knitbone] along the grass line to minimize incursion. It also looks great, attracts insects, the leaves are a superfood for Fruit Trees etc. and is also a great source of material for making Organic Tea to fertilize plants.

I just got my seed order for spring a couple days ago. Life got in the way and I didn't get a fall garden planted because I thought I was too late. Boy was I wrong. Our weather has been crazy in Tulsa. We'll hit upper 70s again this week. Should be in the 40s at this time of year.

Being in zone 4 I grow baby red russian kale under lights all winter. I think the reason it's not as popular for commercial growers is that it wilts quite fast after harvest. On the other hand it's more delicate and not as tough to chew.

Oh man, yeah grasshoppers can do a lot of damage. I would try and get some insect netting to protect your crops. Tunnels are amazing. Thanks for your kind words and for watching the videos!

Put a few rocks at the bottom of the slope with the landscape fabric, it will stop the water from eroding the soil.

Can you break apart the beet seed 'clump', maybe with a process similar to threshing and plant them individually? I've wondered if that's possible.

Can You show how/ what stage You harvest red russian kale? How low do You cut it to let it regrow?

Quick question: you mentioned when you first build a no till bed, it’s wise to plant shallow growing things? I’m putting in some large beds in spring and kind of need to consider what I can plant right off the bat…

Strawberries work great in new beds . Even if you build the base level out of wood then cover in compost. I have several more new beds this year and will be planting lettuces , spinach, arugula, collards and Chinese Cabbage. All of these do well in new beds.

Lots of options and it depends on what you like to grow, what can sell, how much compost you put down and what your native soil looks like.

Another option that may work good to is if you don’t need one of the new beds until summer is to plant it to a cover crop. I have one planted to vetch. It will fixate nitrogen, add bio mass and organics . Best if it all it will die out in the heat when you plant. Rye grass and crimson clover also work.

I do not soak any seeds prior to planting. There is no need for what I plant. There are a few crops in very specific situations where it can be beneficial.

I have a section full of perennial grass weeds. I have cardboard, leaves, and hardwood chips. In what order should I put them down now for spring planting?

Grass needs to be covered with a tarp until it is completely dead before building beds. Cardboard, leaves and wood chips are all carbon sources. I would layer either cardboard or leaves with compost. I do not put wood chips in my beds, but do use them in the walkways. Please check out the related videos in the description of this video for more information.
