My name is Miriam Follin. I’m a Swedish woman who has been living in-between Sweden and China since 2015. In 2017 I married my husband Yonghong, and we have since had two baby boys. In my videos I share life, culture and tradition (including food!) from China's countryside.
Thank you for watching!

hey Miriam, thanks a lot for the interview💖! It's a pleasure to share my experience to everyone who is interested, and I hope my tips are helpful. P.s. you are right, most chinese are not so territorial, and we love extend our hospitality to strangers!

She is! I think it shows in her work too. A great person really! 🤗
I've followed Miriam for years and Yan since her trip from Europe to China. I've always wondered what she had studied in Europe. I think she studied in Switzerland, as she had Swiss friends when she did that lovely video about cheese making in the Swiss mountains, a special video for me because I spent a month in Vallais, Switzerland yars ago. She was speaking some German with them. I was curious about what she studied in Switzerland, good that Miriam asked: 1- Bachelor in landscaping architecture. 2- Master in Urban planning., 3- PhD in tourism geography. So, besides being this adorable, adventurous woman, she has a serious academic background as well. Wow, if I were some 170 years younger, hahaha, I would go to China and offer to work for her as a video editor, for FREE, as I don't need a salary. I've been following everything about China for some 5 years and I'm "aspiring" to go spend my retirement as n engineer in China, specifically in YUNNAN and start a small FREE private Math school for kids in one of those small idylic village there. I have to figure out how I could do that though but I definetely would love to spend the rest of my life in some Yunnan village around those little bubbly Math-loving Chinese kids.

That sounds just about what I hv in mind, but would hv to teach other subjects rather than maths, doubt that my maths degree from the UK is gd enough to teach Chinese children or I could be your assistant 😅

I love Yans views of China . She shows the beauty and simplicity. Her Channel is called little Chinese everywhere
Her favourite experience while travelling she narrated the little boy Mehmet from uyghur is actually also my favourite video. A young child but very kind and enthusiastic to invite and let others know of their culture❤❤❤

Her videos are very special, and she has a really lovely personality too!
Yan uses a simple formula that we all relate to, and why she is so successful.
There are so many influencers online, but Miriam and Little Chinese are two of my favorites. They are both well educated, positive, thoughtful, not really political and they bring me to places NEW to me! For Miriam, I like the way your chat with others. There are so many people you can chat with, and there are so many topics. You can sit down and draw an annual plan, or maybe two year plan if you like. For Little Chinese, it's completely ok to date and marry a Whiteman. It's ok for every healthy person despite that it's really not our business.
Two of my favorites!!! Enjoy both your channels.

Two tips about hiking in China: 1. Most natural spaces are publicly owned either by the state, or by the village collective. So there is no "private property/no trespassing" kinda thing in China. And Chinese people are generally not that territorial so as long as you are not crazy you can go where ever you like. 2. Many trails in the mountainous area were built to facilitate the communications between the villages and they are generally called "Gu Dao/古道“ which literally means "ancient roads". They are usually very solidly built with stones and by following these "Gu Dao" you can go from one village to another. Most villages should have the modern paved road connected to the towns and cities so you can always get the ride if you decided to wrap up the hiking for the day.

@zchu3179 This is what I had imagined but wasn't sure about it. Thank you for the info. Natural areas belonging to the state, province, or villages are 100 times better a system than the Western capitalist private ownership. In Brazil, almost most natural areas are private property, and A LOT of land is not used for anything, owners keep it just for investment/speculation. There are public natural parks but the total area is too small, compared to the huge size of the country.
@MiriamFollin

That sounds quite annoying in Brazil! I think in the US it's also quite tricky with land? I'm lucky to have access to nature in Sweden, where you basically have the right to be in any natural area. So we have plenty of forest and hiking trails to move about and forage in!
I always look forward & love Yan's video Little Chinese Everywhere. She a very down to earth, kind & humble lady.

Yan is so charming ! Thank you for presenting her here Miriam. I did not know her name, just that sweet face. And that she travelled through Europe, Switzerland ! Great reporting ! It is night time here, I fell asleep ….. after. Making that comment half way. And now I could finish it.
Grand interview! Thank you. 🥰
So happy to see the two of you together! What a nice collaboration. You're a great interviewer, Miriam! :) Love this format too among your collection of videos.
You both noted that language is a barrier and that is true if you speak no Chinese (usually Mandarin) at all. But if you can speak a little, enough to cover common issues, you will be very warmly welcomed even if their dialect/accent prevents you understanding them! A young person of 50 or less should be able to learn enough to make travelling rewarding in a year. It took me 5 years, but I was 60 when I had my first lesson, and now I have travelled a lot of the east alone!
I'm a subscriber to both of your channel! What a great collab 🫶🏻❤

Excellent vlog interview, love both of Yan's channels also!! I feel that even with many Chinese being very nice and accommodating like every country there are areas that would be unsafe for a non Chinese person especially if they are not very fluent in Chinese languages. But I wonder are there local guide networks of safe people this idea might be something to highlight?
I think the questions are a bit banal and standard but the answers always manage to improve the video and give details
I am curious if you will do video about "The deepest and largest natural well on earth is called Xiaozai Tiankang. It is located in Penji, in the heart of China." or if I missed one which you have already done. Thanks so much for your wonderful introduction to so many parts of China.
Miriam, I don't know how much Chinese can you read, The reason I am asking this is because your work reminds me of a well-known author 沈從文,

I bought the latest Lonely Planet China - don’t bother. Surprisingly short on real useful info such train and flight schedules, accommodation, and long on unwanted opinions on Xinjiang and Tibet. There is a great deal of useful info by, surprisingly, tour agency websites such as China Discovery, China Highlights, Top China travel, etc.

Don't reveal all that great experiences that travelers and visitors to China can discover. They need the opportunity to discover the beauty and fun of Chinese and other ethinic cultures themselves. Some information is good but some experiences should be left a surprise.
Basically she was doing a copy paste on little Chinese, copying homework. A typical European feature. Why not go in make your own formulae for the process. The whole conversation was basically, how can I copy your homework and get good grades.
