This is the video I've been looking for. I admire your determination. I have a 3 month old. I am a native English speaker from Ireland. My wife speaks English to our baby. I speak Irish (not a native speaker but probably high B1/ low B2 level). I want her to be able to speak our country's native language, the language of my grandparents. I work on my Irish every day.

This is so encouraging. Anyone can teach a language to their kids as a non native speaker. It takes time and alot of dedication. It takes years. Its not easy but doable. 💪

Hmm, i’m a native english speaker with a degree in english. But i have to make a few points which are supported by the current research. People dont “learn” a language, they aquire it. And children aquire the language of their peers. NOT their parents. This is why children of foreign parents don’t share the speaking accent of their parents. Noam Chomsky has discussed this. You can put them in an english speaking class where they are surrounded by peers speaking english. Then they will aquire it. Non-natives usually get to about about a fifth grade level in english. They learn basic conversational english. Basically television english. They dont know there is anything beyond that. Because they never increase their reading literacy. But any kid who does not know english these days is basically shut out of the modern world. Its essential for communicating online and for work. Its the default international language. So any parent who wants their kids to learn english should be putting their kids in english only classes. Otherwise ur in for a hard time.

But how do you put a two year old in an English class? We are talking about two different things. The things that I suggest are also supported by research. Your point is absolutely valid and parents who don't speak English themselves should put their kids in an English class or, like I said in the video, do this in addition to their communication with their kids in English.

Hello, Anna! I’d like to ask you if you have some compilation or list of useful phrases which we usually use with a small child? For example: “Do you want to play/poo/drink? Give me your snotty nose”. And the other different useful phrases which we use every moment communicating with babies. Which time we should use: past simple or past perfect?

Some good phrases are: Are you thirsty/hungry? Do you need to go to the bathroom? Wait, let my wipe your nose! Let's play! Shall we go to the playground?

I speak with my child only in English not because I want to its because he doesn't have any interest in speaking his mother's tongue 🥺 He grew up in a non english speaking country watching cartoons only in English so I guess It's my turn now to become a native english speaker

I'm a native English speaker. You sound like a native English speaker. I'm curious about your first language Ukrainian. I can't hear your accent. Which tells me you must have a accent when you speak Ukrainian?? And why do you never speak Ukrainian? Everyone has an accent when they talk Your either a native English speaker or you don't speak Ukrainian no more.

Сорри, но ты делаешь огромную ошибку разговаривая на английском с ребёнком в США. Он не будет билингвом (сорри трилингвом как ты), он к 15 годам будет only инглыш спикер...
