Every profession has drawbacks. I waa in broadcasting for 52 years, I had to work a lot of nights, weekends, and holidays, but I knew what I was getting into when I started.

Rest assured that you're doing the right thing by slowing down and enjoying the fruits of your labor while you're still young. I've seen it too many times that people keep nose to the grindstone for decades and die before they retire, are too unhealthy to enjoy retirement, or simply have just forgotten how to have fun because all they know how to do is work and chase money.

Yeah I’ve seen that a lot too. Happens to too many! When I slowed down in 2020, I too had to relearn how to have fun and be home without thinking of working lol

I've been watching your videos along with some other KZreadrs and always look forward to your next video. I recently signed up for Truck Driving school and will start at the end of the month. I'm excited for this new career and adventure in my life and my wife is all in as well. I have to say it is scary at the same time. I'm 51 years old and have recently sold my business of 18 years. Plan is to drive for three years, pay everything off and save save save. First year working for someone and getting experience. Second and third year to start my Owner/Operator. Then simi-retire and travel the US. Pick up some loads along the way when we need travel expenses. I might be way out in left field on this plan but it's not our only plan we are working on. Keep up the great videos and information and I'll keep watching. 👍

Great advice. If your shooting for O.O. I'd also get a little business schooling, go through a good CDL Training Course through a Credited College. Have $30k in savings minimum. I went through a fully paid by a Federal Grant, 10 month College Credited CDL Course 6 days a week! We learned in a 389 18sp. & graduated with X endorsement, Hazmat, Doubles, Triples, you name it, we could legally drive it. Train in a truck with a Manual transmission also. I see so many videos & the Auto drivers can't drive a Stick! Wtf? I left L.E. to become a Trucker. I was a company driver making over $2k a week back in the late 90's. I drove hard though. Made my best money running TX to the Dakota's. I logged over a million miles with zero citations, shutdowns & violations. It's not a good job if you got small children also. Great for single & older guys. Be safe.

Bro, thank you for your service! I did 20 as a Fuels guy in the AF refueling aircraft. I test 8/19/22 for my CDL and I am also thankful my wife has been supportive, albeit apprehensively, but she still got my back. I too have the same goal... work less time and make enough to enjoy life/family. She is all in knowing the first year going to suck then I can move to another company get a little bit better home time then stack them dollars and get my own truck and authority then and only then can I make my own schedule. Thanks for the positive words, you speak truth.

I think it's a few reasons why they look at us differently now days and it has allot to do with mega carriers they put people in as fast as possible with little to no training when i started i started at kklm but i told them don't let me drive alone until you know for a fact I can do this without anyone the trainers loved it because it meant they basically had a partner who didn't need help and I trained like 8 months and never had a problem since but also there are some drivers that give us bad names

I was diagnosed with cancer back in 2019 and was out of trucking. Im in remission now and want to renew my medical card. I went and passed everything that I was supposed to but the medical examiner said he couldn't issue me my card because I was taking chemo. I did my research and didn't find anything that said I couldn't receive my card. Is it true that a truck drive can't drive while taking chemo? My wife was there while I was driving OTR but now we are going through a divorce after 15 years. I just want to put my life back together and get back in the truck. I'm by myself now so I can give it all I got with no worries.

that's because your wife is glad your gone so much haha jk jk. I'm ex military as well and I tell everyone that asks about joining the military and now trucking because I just got in as well it takes a special type of woman to be able to have a girlfriend or a wife in these types of jobs because we are gone for long periods of times and they need to be able to accept it and a lot of them say they can and will but in the end a lot of them can't handle the challenge and its hard I haven't been fortunate in choosing the right woman or lucky I guess but that's alright im gunna just keep truckin and soon or later will run into the right one.
