The vacuum bags are awesome and I love your dryer sheet tip, thanks!!
Hello Paige, first time listening to you and I am much appreciated. I’m in the thick of it right now. Both moths and carpet beetle. Interestingly I can see the larvae of both, too easily. It’s the mites that are driving me up the wall. You can’t see them at all. I totally agree with everything that you have said. What I can add I’d peppermint oil is a great deterrent. I put it on the outside of of vacuum bags and outside of the tote container. I double bag my yarn. In Vaccume bags and smaller ones in seal a meal Vaccume bags holding 1-3 skeins, med size. PS. Any adult carpet beetle or moths is too many because if you see one there’s so many more. Vaccume your home is super important as well. I’m still battling it out. Thank you, Michele

Oh my gosh, Paige, I love you for posting this!! I’m googling to find the XLure traps for carpet beetles!! They've been rearing their ugly heads in my house off and on since last year! They’ve done some damage!

Very helpful, Paige! Thank you! Now I'm paranoid!! Luckily, I've not had a problem with moths, but I worry every time I see something flying. I'm also lucky to have 3 cats that like to catch moths!!

great show. We had webbing moths thanks to my lovely mother in law. They moved to Colorado (from NJ) and stored stuff at our house (including moths) They used the closet in our den. Where the moths ate a beautiful navajo rug $$$ and in there frenzy they ate the entire back of our loveseat where we had the rug displayed. The loveseat did not contain any animal fiber... go figure So they also ate about 20 hand knit sweaters. We got rid of them by Bug Bombing the entire house twice. ugh! Thank goodness all my yarn was stored in my studio away from the rest of the house.

you are my hero! two questions for you, before i go and watch ep 53 (and subscribe immediately!): 1) i had always wondered about storing yarn/clothing in plastic bags because of moisture and the possibility of mold. are the desiccants enough to prevent that? 2) what's the story on spices in your storage areas as deterrents, like bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon, etc, and lavender? thank you so much!!
@PaigeTheFramer
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jane! Thanks for watching :) Moisture in the bag is only a problem if the bag is sealed with damp/moist items inside. If your space is climate controlled or it's not a humid day you should be fine. The desiccant packets will ease your mind though. Spices work but...lol They only work for a month or so, because they deteriorate with time there effectiveness dwindles. And as they deteriorate, there is potential for them to ATTRACT bugs since bugs eat deteriorating organic material. So use them for their wonderful aroma but just don't forget to freshen them up often. Hope this helps!!

Ideally, at what percentage should the humidity be kept for your stash? Thanks Paige!

Hi Ruth! I answer your question in Episode 53. xo
Hi Paige, are the little orange and black striped beetles (?) you find in closets and dark places a problem for fiber at all. I occasionally find them on the floor under things in the pantry...yuck. Thanks for the information. Luanne

Great info! If you find bugs in your yarn can you get rid of them or do you have to pitch?
@PaigeTheFramer
3 жыл бұрын
Hi! You don't need to get rid of anything that is still useful. Give it a bath and you will be good to go!
Great information! I store my stash in portable see through stackable plastic drawers with a lavender sachet in each drawer. Do you think lavender sachets work? They were highly recommended online.

Frame & Fiber Thanks, Paige! My lavendar sachets will be replaced a.s.a.p. since they are more than 6 months old and I’ll order enough to replace them more often.
hi, i have found some webbing moths in my stash *ahhhhh* do i have to throw out the affected yarn or is there a way to remove them?
@PaigeTheFramer
3 жыл бұрын
Hi! If there is a lot of damage you may want to discard. Anything you deem salvageable, give it a good and thorough washing. After it's dried, store small amounts in small, sealable plastic bags to monitor and contain any potential, future damage. The best thing to do after that is to use it and let it see some sunlight! Good luck to you, I hope it works out!
I'm itchy now. Must move the stash.

Do you know anything about the stored product beetles that eat through blankets and stuffed animals?
@PaigeTheFramer
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I think maybe you are referring to Carpet Beetles - they love all sorts of fibers like that! The best way to battle them is to not allow anything to sit around for too long. Movement and light are the best for preventing them from getting to comfy in your things.

@@PaigeTheFramer Do they also leave stains on things? I keep finding these reddish colored beetles all around my house (and I know they're not bedbugs). Appreciate the help. I keep finding white powdery marks on things as well. Walls, picture frames, all sorts of things in every room. It's really weird.
