Very timely. I was saying to my instructor the other day that a multi storey would be my nightmare scenario. Just all the narrow turns, I'd be worried about scraping the car against either a wall or another vehicle. Though it's been about 25 years since I was last in MK, helping to find parking spots for my Mum when we headed up there to do the Christmas shopping.

Another reason to switch your headlights on in multi-storey car parks is that it’s easier to see how close you are to other objects due to the reflection that the headlight beam provides.

Ahh! I never done this before. Would probably be worse than underground car parks….it looks easy when others do it tho! Wish I could park (in building areas) with ease one day…gotta keep practise and parking on my own to get more confident. I’ll leave multi storey car park worries alone until I have to do something like that in the future - which won’t be any time soon 😛

Thank you for this video and the reminder of taking your time. As silly as it sounds, I need the constant reminders 😂 I find it easier to park in between cars or anywhere really if there’s no cars directly behind me. Otherwise I feel rushed and then THAT makes me take longer! 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

I just went into a car park that was narrow like this one, and it was a but scary, but I didn't hit the car, and I parked on the higher up level and I drove very slow.

Very few multi-storeys are pay and display, the majority do a ticket to raise barrier on entry. To exit typically they have a paystation or number of kiosks about the shopping centre. When you are ready to leave you put your card in the machine, pay with cash or card and then need to leave within 20 minutes or so. The barrier will recognise a paid up ticket. The majority of these car parks have the first 30 mins free so if there are no spaces you can leave without visiting a paystation or machines as the exit barrier will lift when you put your ticket in the barrier slot. Practicing entering exiting as part of a lesson will usually cost nothing. Airports like Heathrow, Stanstead etc. have multistorey car parks which are pre-bookable on the internet and you put all car details and credit card details in. On arrival ANPR cameras recognises your number plate and barriers magically raise and let you in and out. There other ways of doing these things as well.

Why is it when you park in an almost completely empty car park people will insist on parking right up against the car, or in one case so close to the bumper I couldn't open the boot. The rest of the place is empty, is it a game? Psychological issue?

I heard a story about someone who parked next to a solitary vehicle in a car park and unfortunately hit it. They tried to assert it was not their fault because the sole car was over the line and therefore not totally within the bay.

Hey I went into a 5 level multi storey car park 2 days ago. Think I did it wrong because I kept going and I'm now on level 437 it doesn't exist metaphysically and I think I'm about to depart the stratosphere. How do I exit.

I always park higher up or towards the back of any carpark as it reduces the chances of someone parking next to me and banging their doors into the side of my car and denting / scratching it - lesson learnt through expensive experience. The other two things to be wary of, especially in multi-storey carparks, is people not following the direction arrows, going the wrong way and people not using proper observations when pulling out of a space. Going slow and giving yourself as much space as possible from parked cars will give you time and space to react. The two storey carpark in Cheshire Oaks in Ellesmere Port is, in my experience, notorious for people going against the direction arrows, not helped by satnavs (certainly on my Garmin) telling you, you are going the wrong way when you most certainly are not.
