thank god the selection process in europe is different. writing an essay on why you want to do a masters is ridiculous. people wanting to improve themselves is obvious no explanation needed.

supply and demand plays a role here.

That's actually a very good point and I agree. Unfortunately ,.. when the amounts of applications surpasses the availability of spaces...additional barriers to entry gets added,...hence "just wanting to improve yourself" usually isn't enough.
''I would love to find a better proof for the four colour theorem'' LOL nice

very nicely explained. I wish I had a teacher like her with such deep and meaningful insight.
Wow, she looks so young and has so much behind her.

Looking back at this. She gave the best advice when she said "talk to second year grad students". Qualifying exams hunts second year phD students.
This is incredibly helpful even 10years later. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Good to know that my sales and marketing experience will serve me well in the persuasion side of the essay.
One of the best explanation or tips I have heard on how to get into ivy league... Really amazing ma'am. Thanks a lot for this video
Thank you for the great advice!
THANKS A LOT MAAM, for your valuable suggestions
One senior Math lecturer I knew was working on a better proof of the 4 Colour Theorem after he retired only a few years ago. 😅
Extremely insightful advice that's just Awesome
Thank you for your advice!
really loved the speech

How can doing a senior thesis help an application that is due in the autumn of the senior year?
GRE is not accepted anymore by so many grad schools.
Is subject GRE still accepted? I think even General GRE is almost dead

From what I've learned, the GMAT is requested for MBA (Master's in Business Administration) programs, whereas the GRE is basically for all the other Master's degree programs.
"..we just don't look at applic'ns below there unless there's some compelling reason.." i.e. check the right boxes. but you'll still get to complain that you're being discriminated against :)

and btw, i got a 68% on gre. [real analysis and abstract algebra questions pummeled me.] was told (on message boards) that unless you're in 90s, you have no chance of top-tier grad school. and if you don't get top-tier grad school, you have no chance of becoming faculty. [again, unless you can check the right under-representation box(es).] fyi..

@@gregy1570 The problem is that lesbian women of color just don't apply to maths programs in the first place, and that's why affirmative action exists. It's a statistical question initially, so you should understand that, but since you're too dumb to hit more that 68% in your maths exams, I don't expect you to get it. Get lost justifying your individual mediocrity with politics.
Math is horrible but this professor is neat. She tries to help her students open up the doors. Real world advice.
