Great video, 1650 hours and didn't know about the new interface option "Flat character GUI" was definitely missing that after the gui update I think this video could have included deconstruction planner and upgrade planner plus their custom settings, maybe import blueprint. Unless those are going in with a video entirely about blueprints and books.

Very nice video, lots of things to learn, HOWEVER you said to use Z to drop items on furnaces. That is one way but often not the best! you can use ctrl + left click or ctrl + right click, what this does is it puts whatever you have in hand into the building, (right click does half) and then you don't drop items on the ground accidentally. also a great way to fill turrets fast. You can also use ctrl + click with an empty hand to pick up whatever is inside a building/chest. again left click picks everything, right click half (this time not just 1 stack but instead the entire contents)

Thanks Nilaus - very helpful! A few other notable tips that I did not find out until I was hundreds of hours into Factorio... 1) If you shift click on a power pole, it will remove all wires linked to it. You can then build copper wires and manually connect power poles up how you prefer. Sometimes the game crosses wires or creates to many connections and it looks ugly so this helps clean it up! 2) Many builds can be chain fed by other buildings, easiest example are labs, you can have an inserter take items out of a lab and feed it into another lab, so you don't have to run belts past every lab. This also works for boilers. 3) Play the tutorial or put effort into learning how to use trains. It's worth it. It might seem easier to just use long lines of belts for your raw resources, but once I was comfortable with trains, it was so much more satisfying. Leave yourself plenty of room behind your smelting array for some train stations so you can build them into your base. It's not as difficult as you might think and initially I was put off by the super complicated rail networks other players use. I just started with a simple 2 lane, 1 way system.

Extra hotkey useful for early and late-game: instead of z to drop a single item into a chest or assembler, you can hold ctrl and click the left mouse button to drop a full stack of the selected item. I do this all the time when building a new outpost, temporary manual feeding, or quickly getting rid of items I don't need in my inventory by dropping them into a machine that use the item

Hello Nilaus, thanks for helpful tips, but I really miss one thing. I haven't played factorio ... for years and I remember, that I was using very helpful function (which I learned from one of your vids back then :) ) about building from blueprints - BEFORE - robotics. Thanks to that, I was able - after placing a "ghost town" via blueprint - pick up an entity, press (or hold, I don't remember) a key, and then all I had to do was just running around with pressed LMB and I was placing respective building on correct spots. It didn't allow me to place an entity on wrong spot. I still had to place entities manualy, but it was way faster and more importantly, it was preventing me from making anoying mistakes with misplacing entities. And I was not using any mods.

Really helpful tips, with 1000 hours in I didn't know about the flat GUI. One shortcut I am using a lot, especially when my personal roboport is still bad (no fusion reactor), is ALT + R which disables my own roboport so I can make ghost builds in peace and/or let the robots from my network do the job. Although you can do this with the button in the shortcuts bar, I feel that it is worth a mention. Also not sure you mentioned the copy and paste recipe from/to assemblers, and also being able to paste it to requester chests. But I think you do mention this in one of your other videos somewhere.

Nilaus, one of the things i really need some help understanding with the new update is the fixed grid stuff in blueprints. I have a huge solar panel blueprint, and i can’t get the offset right to make it line up with the existing blueprint grid that i have so i can stamp those down from the map and line up with my existing solar build. If you could do a video on how to line up the little lines on your blueprints so that they snap to the grid but are offset correctly from teh grid to line up with something, that would be amazing.

If you use Left Ctrl + Left Mouse while holding an item, you will automatically drop as many of that item into the receiving thing as it can hold and while holding a single stack of that particular item in your hand, it will cycle through all of that item in your inventory to fulfill your Left Ctrl + Left Mouse command. For example, if you have 1,000 units of coal in your inventory (20 full stacks) and you hold Left Ctrl + Left Mouse and move your mouse across an entire smelting array, you will drop up to 50 Coal in every smelter automatically as you move your mouse across them. This also applies to items such Module upgrades for drills, adv. smelters, assemblers, etc - if you are holding 1,000 Speed Module 1's and then hold Left-Ctrl + Left Mouse, you will automatically drop as many speed modules as that receiving unit can hold as you move your mouse pointer across the drill, the assembler, etc. This ALSO works in regards to upgrading modules - if you hold Speed Module 3's and use the same method of Left-Ctrl + Left-Mouse and move your cursor across the same drills, assemblers, etc, you will automatically replace any & all speed module 1's in the receiving units. You can use the same keyboard & mouse command to drop any item in your hand (and connected inventory) into boxes/chests of any sort - but it will only do so a stack at a time unless you move your mouse continually over the receiving chests. Say you just loaded up on coal from your coal-train's receiving chests and you would rather have it redistributed to the belt system by the inserters, but you don't want all the left over coal holding up one box and one belt - hold Left-Ctrl + Left-Mouse and then move your cursor across the line of chests - on the initial pass, you will automatically deposit up to one stack of coal in every chests - moving your cursor over the chests again repeats the process until the item in-hand/connected inventory is depleted. Amazingly enough, the same Left-Ctrl + Left-Mouse method ALSO works in reverse when it comes to picking up items from containers, drills, assemblers, etc (anything that has an inventory, even a limited one like assemblers for production). While holding nothing in-hand, you hold Left-Ctrl + Left-Mouse and then sweep your cursor over the things you want to pick up from - say a bank of smelters - and it's either early game and you don't have a receiving chest yet or the belt is full and so are the smelters - you sweep your cursor across all of the smelters and you will automatically take any of the PRODUCTION inventory it has to your inventory (you will take the smelted plates, you will *not* take the fuel/coal). You can do the same thing if you have receiving chests for things like assemblers or smelters and you want whatever inventory it has - Left-Ctrl + Left-Mouse and move your cursor over the chest and you will automatically take its inventory.

I wish the production quality was higher, like the widget in bottom right was really good, but you could really compress this 20 min in a lot less, you had times when talking about shortcuts and were "oh I didn't know that doesn't work" and these things add up and take a lot of minutes. also some things you just repeated a lot of times, so my advise it's basically just cut the unnecessary parts, wasting people's time is the last thing you wanna do considering this is a tutorial not a "let's play". again, not saying the content is bad, its just, this is how you can improve it
