I have 3 blueberry plants that I put directly in the soil. Had them over a decade. Put plenty of eracacious compost in the dug holes. Each year I put a generous amount around the plants for mulch. They get a tomato feed each week to ten days during the fruiting season.

Amy, thank you so much for your vlog. Really helpful and great to watch. Even stopped me watching football. You have given me loads of ideas as sadly i buy far too much of that supermarket fruit. Thanks again.😊

@@jovice9867 thank you for the wonderful comment. That's really lovely ! Nothing wrong with a bit of supermarket fruit now and then (you might notice I reuse supermarket fruit packaging when I'm picking berries at my allotment!) but we've become so disconnected from actual seasonal eating and many people don't know what proper homegrown fruit even tastes like. It's so easy to grow even just one strawberry plant, and once you do you'll just want to grow more and more 🥰🍓

Thanks, Amy. Yes, I will keep buying fruit, but I might look at local farms or alternatives as well. On a walk last week, i came across a lady selling gorgeous gooseberries at the end of her drive, so I had three bags of them. As always, after watching you, i gain knowledge and inspiration. I will try to grow my own, so thank you again, and I will keep watching.

@@amykellygardening You are welcome!!! Thank you for replying..🙂 m not sure about squirell guards...i will have to research that...they are amazing jumpers and climbers..i see them running on electrial lines that are 1/2 inch in diameter with ease...and jump from my nieghbors tree onto the top of my 6ft fence 8 ft away...and they are so used to people that while on my porch the will walk right up to you within a foot with no fear...they are always digging holes in my mulch...they are cute and great entertai ment but are also a pain in the Rearend...ughhh

@@leacruz7311 wild/everbearing strawberries are much better for partial shade or if you really don't get any sun, consider growing some redcurrants or blackcurrants, which both cope well in partially shaded conditions.

Great video Amy. I live in tropical lowland Sri Lanka where the average daytime temperature all year round is between 32 - 33° C! Strawberries are only grown in the central Highlands where the temperature is lower due to elevation. Do you know of any Strawberry varieties that can be grown in tropical climates?

I believe that tropical climate strawberries are being grown commercially at the moment, but I don't think they're available to the public yet. I would make the most of your lovely climate and grow something that will enjoy the heat. Strawberry guavas have a similar taste to strawberries and they are delicious. I had a tree in my back garden in Australia as a child and one of my fondest memories is picking the juicy strawberry-ish flavoured fruits and enjoying them in our hot summers.
