We’ve wanted to find a bit of wilderness and hand-build a small natural off-grid getaway for many years. We’re finally doing it in our fifties! The plan: Find the largest, most secluded bit of heavily treed land within a reasonable distance from home and work and build a few small structures first-workshop, outhouse, guest house, office, then finally a 400-foot wilderness retreat to ultimately retire on. We are determined to build as naturally and sustainably as we can and with as little damage to the land as possible. We plan to document our adventure for family and friends, especially since none of this would have been possible without Alice, who loved the wilderness and taught everyone around her to love it as well.
