    It's all appreciated. Many years ago, in the far east, i can remember seeing gold leaf being made by hand, with hammers. What was interesting is they were using a clepsydra or water clock to partition out the time to beat. I did a quick google and the wikipedia page for a Water Clock has the same place, using the same clock, for beating out the gold. [Do a google, YT doesn't like links]. So the question, which one is my favourite? Hard to say, bt the Cherub blowing the horn, blue background, the robin, the pineable I think are my top 3.

    Hi Ruth, thank you for all the work and the wonderful gift you have given us! It was nice to see so many different techniques!! My favorites are perhaps the stencil, the Luna's frame, sgraffito and the robin...I forgot, also the decoration with the crystal drops and the one with the Japanese technique. I'm glad you also used a colored metallic leaf, I've been wanting to ask you for a while which type of mission was the most suitable for making it adhere to the surface. Do you have a book to recommend on different frame decoration techniques? I knew many of the techniques you used and some I didn't, I'd like to be able to deepen them in these holidays. In general I like to use different art techniques! Thanks again!! Many heartfelt wishes for happy holidays, a merry Christmas and a happy new year😊🎄🎄🎄💫, Manuela

    Does anyone know how I could leaf onto mild steel? 1) Do I need to use bole? 2) Do I seal the item afterwards if it's being handled? So far I'm thinking along the lines of this: 1) Clean the item with a degreaser. 2) Clean it in an ultrasonic cleaner with a mild detergent 3) Clean in the ultrasonic cleaner again but just with water. 4) Lightly sand with wet & dry, then clean. 5) Apply an oil based size. 6) Apply the leaf. 7) Seal with an aerosol varnish.

  • @RuthTappinGilder

    @RuthTappinGilder

    Жыл бұрын

    Get it as clean as you can. Alcohol is good to finish with. You won't be able to use bole on metal but you could use a matel paint if you wanted to. A yellow will help if there is any splits in the gilding. If it's going to be touched then seal it, a shellac is good for indoors or a clear outdoor varnish for out side.
