Tinny mods | The ultimate fishing platform is the new Stessco Tripper.
The long awaited new tinny build is here. It’s a Stessco Tripper HS so the sides are higher and the gunnels are wider. Once it’s fit out with these mods, in my opinion it’s the ultimate fishing platform.
What do you need:
2 sheets of marine grade ply
10 m2 of marine carpet
3m of piano stainless steel hinge
Approx 6l of contact adhesive
4 compression locks
Pop Rivets approx 3.2mm x 9mm / 1 pack
Marine Sika Flex
Sika Flex 221
Pan head, metal screws 30mm / 50
Small countersunk screws for the piano hinges
Black spray paint for timber
Aluminium angle / approx 5 3m lengths
30mm x 30mm Box section aluminium / 1.2m
16 x 16mm aluminium channel / 2.4m
Foam 10mm x 6mm self adhesive sealant strip from Bunnings.
And I think that’s about it.
I hope this is helpful guys, get out there and enjoy it!

Forgot to add that the foam flooring was boat flooring from Emega Online. On EBay.

Hey mate cracking build. Should mount a solar panel under the lid of the gull wing door. Leave it open when driving. Or docked

A mate of mine has a big strip of black poly garden edge riveted around the front deck because he was tired of licking pliers and lipgrips over the front. It also catches a lot of wind and water whipping up over the front of the boat that you would otherwise catch in the face. Also costs next to nothing. Couple rivets, some silicone and the garden edging is all you need each time you need to replace it and he seems to get about 2 years out of it.

Great to watch. One thing i have done differently is close up that gap between the floor and the rear seat. That gap for us always had stuff falling under the seat. We added a little panel down to the floor on the front side of the seat, allowing a small gap so water can easily flow thru, from the floor, but not knives, sinkers etc.

Great build video, some great ideas. I did a similar build last year but used 5083 grade 3mm Al plate for the floor, then covered it in 5mm Ultralon Z-tread, Al angle/RHS for deck frame. No wood, no dirty/wet/mouldy carpet. I did the stats and it worked out to be a similar weight to ply and a much more durable option, and not a heap more expensive. Let me know if you want some details/pics for your next build. Also curious to know if your gutter system works to keeps the hatches dry? Keep the vids coming, you're living the dream!

Hey mate. You definitely need to seal the edges with sika, I’ve had issues where the parts I didn’t seal were shrinking and the glue separated from the foam. The edges that were sealed with sika have held tight. It was about 6 months to see the issues. The product is fine otherwise but needs the edge sealing.

Impressive fit out for using Bunnings and RTM fittings with no welds. Done alot of boats and this is mint. Next time though go to an aluminium supplier for your angle. Bunnings is ridiculously expensive for that stuff. Sorry, you just pointed that out. 👍

Thanks mate. I always want to do these things in a way that all viewers can do too. Yep Bunnings is far too expensive for angle hey, blew me away
What an absolute professional build Nath, I will be definitely copying your design when I get around to building my tinny. the only thing that I need to incorporate is a small side steering console as I have a very bad back and can't use a tiller steer outboard. I can't wait to see the next to episodes with the Quad bike and canopy review. Love your work mate.

Nice build - I went looking for pictures from my similar tinny build 15 years ago, but I seem to have lost them! (Have to build another one...) I wonder how those compression locks will hold up to salt water? They might last better sprayed with a coating every now and then (Lanox or similar). Love the channels - and I'd love to hear how effective they are at keeping the water out. That's always been the biggest challenge I've found with hatches made of plywood. Michael

Without the wide gunnels, do you think you would need some sort of vertical support on the front deck? Looking to do somthing similar, just concerned that there might be too much flex without some sort of center vertical support - or is the middle horizontal support where you or the piano hinge strong enough?
Awesome content Nath as per normal! Mate what’s the total weight of the hull after the fit out?
@WildReaches
2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t weighed it but I’d say around 150
