Timothée Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, And the ‘Little Women’ Cast Talk Putting a Modern Spin on Alcott

Фильм және анимация

Writer-director Greta Gerwig’s follow-up to ‘Lady Bird’ is earning serious Oscar buzz ahead of its release in theaters this Christmas - which should come as no surprise. The cast is stacked with a who’s-who of young talent (Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlon, Timothée Chalamet), some beloved veterans (Meryl Streep, Laura Dern), and Oscar-nominated Gerwig is at the helm. Ahead of the movie’s opening, Rotten Tomatoes editor Jacqueline Coley say down with Gerwig, Chalamet, Ronan, Pugh, Dern, and Scanlon to dive into how they all collaborated to make the 19th-century novel startlingly relevant today, the ins-and-outs of an epic-sounding fight scene, and to decide whether Laurie is a true romantic or the kind of guy that would ghost you on Tinder.

Really loving the intelligent, descriptive and well spoken answers from the cast. They talk about things that aren't typical for promo quick interviews. Greta is so excited and passionate about the project and can look at the source material with fresh eyes, and convey themes that are interwoven into our present-day lives. Some amazing inspiring women, who are all about inclusion, love and sharing important stories. However, the interviewer seemed like she wanted them to bicker or turn against each other, cause drama. That's the type of stuff you see in tabloids and its harsh and petty. I don't feel like that's an effective way to interview, especially considering the material/themes/story they are discussing. (plus it probably makes the interviewee uncomfortable or annoyed)

My one gripe is that Greta chose to leave out Joe finding love in the end. This is part of the story. It's actually a major part in the end. It's closure for Joe's wandering spirit. There is nothing wrong with Joe finding love once she publishes her book. Throughout the story of Little Women Joe has a lot of passion, but can never find her match .... that is until she meets a kindred spirit in Frederick who walks the same unconventional path and sees her for who she is. I would get it if Joe didn't marry, but not finding love? Boooo!

Sometimes actors are sitting in interviews for hours on end a day, many days in a row. I've heard actors describe how mind-numbing it is to sit through these press junkets so long you can barely see straight. I attributed their dazed expressions to exhaustion rather than annoyance. They all had questions directly asked to them that they answered, Laura talked a lot as well, and Saorise's been doing this since she was 9 years old, so I'm not surprised she jumps in quick if no one else does. She's had a whole lot of practice.

  • @pbcat16

In her defense, she has been in showbiz the longest out of the young actresses (second longest if Emma Watson were there) so she'll always know what to say, I mean being an Oscar nominee since the age of 13 can do that to you...and Eliza actually got to answer a question here, which is good but I definitely agree she (Saoirse) should give the other two actresses a chance to talk. Even in the Saoirse-Florence-Timothee interviews where you'd normally expect Timothee to get the most attention especially since Saoirse gets asked about him non-stop in her solo interviews, she still manages to talk over the other two

I did like him at one time, but now I see him as a flash in the pan. I like Robert Pattinson more. He chooses roles that are challenging and different from his other roles.
