Introducing Timor-Leste: The Sunrise Land
In my channel description, I share my experiences from places I have lived or visited, and one of the countries I spent almost four years in Timor-Leste.
The Timorese people are incredibly hospitable, gregarious, and some of the friendliest you’ll ever encounter. They celebrate various events at the national and community levels with much vibrancy. Timorese society is conservative and traditional, strongly focused on family, the community, and religion. The country has a population of 1.3 million, with approximately 25% living in the capital city of Dili.
Timor-Leste (East Timor) boasts many spoken languages, a reflection of its history of migration, colonialism, and other occupations. Officially recognized languages include Tetun and Portuguese, while Bahasa (Indonesia) and English are considered working languages. Timorese people engage in a wide range of sports, with football being a particular passion. I've discovered that Timorese cuisine includes some of the simplest dishes I've ever tried.
