Out of curiosity; there are many reference made to Malaysia. e.g. Descendents of East Timorese. Malay language used. Could it be that it is more accurate to say that it is Indonesian instead ?

I dream to one day to be able to visit Timor Leste! Wondering; is it safe for tourists to travel there ?

Timor Leste is generally very safe to visit. There is some low level crime so take normal precautions as you would in any city. At the moment (May 2018) there is an election which has been marred by some violence. However, this is not typical. Healthwise - Dili is like Bali - don't drink the water, and malaria is no longer a problem. However as with Bali there are similar health issues such as a risk of mosquito born diseases such as Dengue Fever. Normally the people are very friendly and open particularly if you learn a few words of Tetun. However most people are multilingual and Indonesian is widely spoken. Many people in the larger centres such as Dili and Baucau also speak English and/or Portuguese. Often they want to practice their English if you can speak it. Remember the people are very poor, so it is good manners and wise not to exhibit too much wealth. If you do want to visit it is great to get out of Dili, but services and accommodation in the rural areas can be quite basic.
