I think Truls is developing the sport. In interviews Waldner always says that the European players shouldnt try to imitate the chinese. Rather try to find their own way of playing table tennis. Thats why Waldner was so great. Always one step ahead.

I love JOW like no other, but the top Chinese of today would crush him in his prime were he to play with the current ball size. It's a power game now with little finesse. His physicality is no match for the likes of Fan Zhendong.

Correct. It's how Ovtcharov and Harimoto compete with them: by doing things they don't, even though I dislike the vocal side of it. Truls does it with an unconventional blade and dito technique.

Truls is very comfortable with Timo’s slow and heavy loops close to the table. He countered well on both FH and BH.

It's difficult to compare generations of table tennis. Waldner with the 38 mil ball was a class of its own. Möregardh has to prove over the years that he is a champ. And he has to win titles. At least at European championships.

The real new hero from Euro is Jorgic. He has proven that in this tournament and also in the Tokyo Olympics. Truls has not beaten any top 10 player so far, and his only international success is reaching WTTC final last year but he was lucky not to face any top Asian player or top 10 player en route (Boll was WR 11 that time).

@@inyourface123 Nothing against Darko Jorgic, he played really well in the whole tournament. But it is Moregards' style of playing - (kind of) "unpredictable" for opponents in terms of ball placing - that (in my opinion) makes him Europe's hope to compete with top Chinese. He's almost 4 years younger than Darko and once he improves his consistency and mental strength throughout the whole single match he will be a real threat to even top Chinese players.

I don't agree. Waldner was a true gentleman. I have never seen him throwing the racket and other unsportsmanlike conduct. Waldner is a true legend when Moregard is only a cheeky spoiled KID!

I am a fan of Timo and like him very much. But big props to Truls. Playing so comfortable and variable against a player like Timo who is known for making it very hard to play like this is very very impressive

Timo is just aging out sadly. All these lazy wide backhand blocks or the precision, and the will to go full forehand attack Mode in rallies are not anymore possible for Timo. He lacks speed, endurance, back-problems. 7years earlier he would have cooked everybody of those guys. No offense, Trust is a good guy, but beating old men.

Passing of the torch. We are witnessing a new era of European table tennis, if i can be bold to say so. Truls playing style is so unique. And for Timo, i wish him many more years of great table tennis matches :)

8:50 I mean, what can you do against this? Really impressive. His playstyle is so wild and confusing, you never know what's gonna happen next. And he's having so much fun even in tournament matches. He's really entertaining to watch for people who are familiar with the sport. Laymen will not understand what's going on. He literally has multiple trademark shots like these counter smashes, his backhand punch and the backhand backspin/no spin blocks.

first i thought truls is an arrogant dog... but the more i watch him play, the more i realize how unique this free playstyle has become... nearly everyone else is just like a robot doing exactly the same as everyone.. only topspins with the same motions, rarely blocking, bh bananas from nearly everywhere on the table, screaming chooooo!!!!!! instead of own expressions,.. quite a uniformation nowadays.. like soldiers of modern education..

Timo was clearly injured at the WTTC and in Swedish media especially this was largely overlooked even though it was plain for anyone to see. Sure, even an injured TB is a threat and a feather in anyone hat if they beat him. But still this second victory confirmed that the last time was not a lucky strike. Well done Truls! Now it's time to get even with FZD :-)

It's not Moregard's fault that Boll could never prepair for the majors.He had no business playing doubles but he always preferred easy sponshorship money.

@@dickn.ormous1064 I think it’s kind of presumptuous to think that money is the prime motivator for his behavior. I would imagine that succeeding in doubles is important to him as well as the german national team from a sports perspective. My impression of TB is that he’s a great sportsman who is exceptionally professional in his approach to the sport. Any commercial success he may have reaped during his carreer is more likely a result of his attitude, not the other way around.

I'm really surprised that Källberg isn't here, but Truls is showing why he's a force to be recond with! Timo is a legend so there can't be any hard feelings.

Speaking of forehands, there were some he made this game I've never seen another human make. If he can be more consistent end to end there's no limit.

Sinto que faltou Timo arriscar mais, atacar primeiro mais vezes. Se você está na semifinal é melhor fazer algo diferente. O risco de contra-ataque é alto mas o Truls é jovem e jovens perdem o foco e erram muito em jogadas fáceis. Timo é uma lenda e pode mostrar mais do que isso que fez nessa semifinal.

Biggest difference I see in Truls is that he is not trying to swat the hard forehands like he did against the Chinese though their forehands were much more powerful than Timo's is. We have to see him face off with the Chinese before concluding this. He is trying to win the rallies with good loop drives. Wish he could develop backhand like Darko's.

Good win for Truls. Timo not playing his best. Even though he's not as injured as he was at the WM it still takes time to get back into shape especially if your no spring chicken like Timo

Boll was destroyed. Moregard serves so well. Gets the nice ball for a strong 3rd ball attack. And Boll cannot fool Moregard with his serves. So Moregard is the best of Europe. Can he now take on Fan Zhendong?

Well we see what he still can achieve in bigger tournaments. Last Year he won the European Championships and played a good World Championship. I think his performance wasnt very good today but Truls surprised him all the way through and didnt give Timo any rhythm.
