Timo is probably one of the fairest, kindest, most talented and hardworking athletes out there. Seeing him still win international tournaments after 25-ish years of professional career literally brings tears of joy to my eyes. Well deserved, what a legend.

With litle more lightweight balls in this tournament, the entertaining technique topspin playing style of Timo Boll prevails the bored lightening fast touch-hit-counter playing style of Harimoto. Table tennis should boost attracting entertaining playing style of Timo Boll to attract more amateur players, to pull more spectators by appy lightweight balls. I beg that if this match used heavyweight balls like Nittaku balls, then Harimoto could win with his EXTREME BORED LIGHTENING FAST HIT-COUNTER PLAYING STYLE in a very bored match. Because heavyweight balls require lightenning fast physical reaction of teenagy age. That is why Japan very quickly replaces all their top players after every 2-3 years by new young teenagy players to get advantages of lightenning fast physical reaction. Even many japanese kid players appear more and more in professional international table tennis. It is not good trend. Because kid players are younger than 16 year old, who are not allowed to work or to play as work. Please open labour code , kids are not allowed do professional work as professional jobs. Age is more than a number. Timo had a lot of injuries but he has unparalleled dedication and training discipline to get back. His ageless aspect is his open minded mental approach that let him change his game again and again. No other player ever has done it and defeated the world elite afterwards. This Timo again changed so much of his tt. He will be a brilliant coach.

It gives immense happiness seeing Timo win at this juncture of his career. Legend for a reason 😊

Man what a game. Harimoto is a beauty to watch when he is in full attacking mode like this. What a player. Peaking at the right time for the Olympics. Despite his great form, Timo fully fit and in top form too, manages to win. Can't believe what he is doing at the age of 42. Mental!

Timo Boll = The model of table tennis. At 42 years old, he can still outperform someone two decades his junior. I'm so happy!

There are GOATS, and there are legends. I am more impressed with a legend, especially one at this age.

Insert random "always has been like that".jpeg meme :). This is what always made him one of a kind. There are matches vs Kong Linghui when Timo was 17/18 where you can see him at young age doing that consistently and (naturally) being much faster than now. I believe the chinese followed him and recorded him for many years at that time to study and adapt to his technique and train Boll-killers in their TT-schools and ofc enhance their own TT repertoire.

Yea, i was just about to comment what the other comment did. The reason why he's different from his other European compatriots and able to pull out a strong fight with the Chinese is because his play incorporates close-to-table and off-the-bounce style of play. So this style is not too new I guess. Just that along with his age, i think he knew he couldn't stay too far from the table and do those full loops, so the proportion of these styles increases.

That fh flick at 7:44 while being in the 6 set and 8:9 down really shows how good of a player Timo really is. With this point he not just equalled in score, but made a mental statement! Im there and aggresive! It really marked the turning point of this match!! Not thats its one of the most difficult strokes in all of tt. But also to pull it off in this moment, when behind, against a equally skilled oponnent while you're under pressure and 42 years of age! Timo is a true legend! Outstanding what he does in table tennis. Besides that he looks more agile and quick than the last couple of years. His reflexes, fh to bh transition and his overall read on the game are top notch! On the other hand one can clearly see harimoto analysed his style and changed a lot. He can still just bh drive the ball and play fast pace 'like the woman tt'. But he worked hard on his fh topspin close to the table and his topspin counters! Props to his coaces for sensing errors in his game and adapting to the new tt. I really look forward to what he can achieve with his new style ❤

Unexpected and strong forehand flick

What Can you say to this man. Shoulder injury, 140th in the World. Finding Form Losing to mediocre Players, 42 Years of Age and still has that desire and will to work hard and make the most of it beating top players on the road to that Title. He is just awesome and a legend. There is literally not enough Credit or words to worship that. Thanks Timo and Congrats to the title.

Timo may not be the GOAT, but he is my favorite player of all time! At 42 years of age, and is still playing at this high a level is awe-inspiring! I really hope he goes to the Olympics and win one more metal before retirement.

Le come back au 6ème set est incroyable ! Une remontada comme il en a le secret. Il a un mental d'acier ce Timo. Même à son âge il rivalise avec la vitesse d'Harimoto. Il était inarrêtable sur ce tournoi. Après sa dernière blessure, j'avais peur de le voir prendre sa retraite tout doucement mais non... il est toujours là et prêt à mettre à mal les nouvelles générations. Quel athlète, quel pro... et quel plaisir de continuer à le voir évoluer à ce niveau :-)

He should retire to give younger players from Germany a shot on the international level...Boll, Ovtcharow and Co were the gatekeeper so until Dang Qui no younger player was able to establish themselves on an international level..

You dont ask such a legend to retire especially if he is destroying top 10 players at 42. German young guns have enough chances to show themselves but there isn't much talent

@@ravanpee1325 Franziska is several levels beneath Boll and has not developed in years. What an absurd idea 😂In the end the best players will go and that can mean no Boll. He does not have a guaranteed place. Other than Dan no one really showed top potential in 2023. Boll has to repeat similar performances but if he can keep at this level he will go to Olympics in single simple because he is better than the others. Maybe we should send Duda and Franziska to the Olympics single 😆

It's crazy how apparent the difference in speed has become with Timo and his younger opponents. Harimoto racing left to right and right to left at his side of the table, whereas Timo makes only the necessary steps and gains control with his increadibly clever placement and his variable spin from under the table. And look at the gentle facial expression of "hutspur" Harimoto at the end of the match. Timo may be the most respected pro-player of this sport.
