    I don’t say this lightly, but that was a master class in breaking down and explaining to the target audience what a para social relationship is and how it works 👏 well done. Social engineering of people’s feelings affect their perception of things, simple as that. I especially enjoyed the little subtle pips of music to evoke a subconscious response in key spots of your video - first class, well done Oisin 👍

    Oisin, so well said and spot on. You stood out on the Tim Write Zoom call last week with Anthony Farrer. You were the only interviewer who understood that Anthony was a grifter and called him out. Kudos to you. Regarding Anthony, he conned all of us from the beginning. It was only the last 90 days that Redittors shared his extensive arrest record since he was a teen. Anthony himself just told us he was arrested FORTY times. More importantly, we also learned that Anthony is just the tip of the grey market watch grifters, and this practice is more common then we thought. Keep up your work of exposing these frauds and hucksters!

    Actually, lots of people on Reddit knew that TPG was a scam early on even dating back to the Dallas days. Its just that there were a lot of people who fawned on flexing of leased luxury cars, , expensive dinners, and first class flights to deliver watches only netting a few thousand who couldn't see a consignment business model wasn't generating enough money to support the high life . Also, if one couldn't see past the fake flexing, there were other early warning signs about lack of cash such as the watch buy back program, the 2k VIP watch club , watch dealer university. the list goes on.

    Fine artists deal with this scenario all the time. They leave all their paintings at galleries on consignment all the time and when the gallery goes under, you're screwed. Gallery owners are MIA with the artwork and gone. Any business proposition where consignment is discussed should immediately raise a red flag.. This should be a wake up call. Sad for those who lost money.. Good content as usual and a topic that needed to be addressed..

    @georgezagr6627 Exactly there is a quick cash price and there's a price to sell to a end user. Whenever I hear someone say "they are going for x price" I tell them go sell your item yourself. A real dealer has to account for selling cost, profit and the cost of money over time. People have no clue.

  • @crzyruskie86

    @crzyruskie86

    @@KeithBeacham You can do it yourself but you also have to prove to whoever your selling to that your piece is authentic. You can have all the paperwork but what if you swapped the watch itself to a fake? If you sell something yourself it takes extra time to do your own authentications for the sake of the buyer. This is why people pay brokers.

    Fascinating group of people in the watch world. Love watching these videos. I've been watching Archie Luxury for years; he's a character to say the least. But as I've been going down the rabbit hole, the watch world seems populated by a bunch of snake oil salesmen, wheeler dealers, and wannabees. In my city, we have an area called Yorkville, which is crawling with nouveau riche and faux riche, the latter of which are likely drowning in debt. Lambos, Ferraris, Bentleys abound, all driven by Eurotrash and domestic skidders disguised as rich folk. It's a hoot to witness. And TPG would have fit in perfectly. Love all this content. Thanks to all!

    Great video and thoughts. I sold a Sky Dweller last yr (not consignment), But the dealers love consignment and try to get you in, by saying it will get you the best price etc etc (GREED). I asked the dealer for his Drivers Licence and a Police check (which they said No - which I expected). They said you are consigning it to a coy, I said no I am trusting you ! I said if you take off with my watch, I need to know where you live etc so I come around and get it. They dealer did not like this at all, BUT like you said I didn't really know the dealer at all, seemed nice But who knows. NEVER EVER CONIGN.

    Hi Oisin, I really enjoyed the episode from a wisdom perspective. It reminded me of a time many many years ago when I was a struggling uni student and I had to sell my 1978 Fender Stratocaster on consignment, just so I could pay my f’n rent. The god damn shop did not have my best interests in mind, and later pointed out imperfections to try and get me to lower the price to the prospective buyer. There is a classic line from Ray Liotta, in the movie ‘Revolver’ that people should bear in mind when engaging in ‘any’ business transaction from the perspective of both sides of the transaction: “what innit for me”?

    I agree with everything you said about the grey market except the bit about possibly consigning to a close friend. I used to buy and sell watches to a childhood friend who comes from a reputable and respected family of jewellers and watchmakers who've been around for generations. He set up his own independent business and over the years I gave him valuable watches on consignment and never had a problem with payments. One day I turned up at his shop to find that he had closed the business overnight and disappeared with my polar dial five digit Explorer II and my Tudor Black Bay Bronze. I later found out that he had become a heroin addict and that he did the same thing to countless other customers to fuel his addiction. He has been disowned by his family and is now practically homeless! - My lawyer advised me to just put it down to experience and move on. You live and you learn I guess!

    Brilliant video, utterly superb. One thing you failed to mention is this. I consign my watch to x dealer, he in turn consigns it to another grey dealer, and another, and another. All of a sudden you have no idea where who has your watch, what their Insurance arrangments are, and if one dominio in that chain falls, you are fucked. It happens all the time

    Excellent review of the mindset of the subscriber. 'I am looking at you', but I am relieved you are 'not actually looking at me', given that I am slouching in my man-cave wearing a stained string-vest while shovelling down my fifth processed cheese burger and saturated fries of the morning. (sorry I logged off for a moment; one of my 14 rescue cats walked over my keyboard.)

    Really enjoyed this content and your analysis. It has been going on as long as advertising existed and that’s why bill boards with images of people were first done.

    Remember the London watch show where a dealer had 400k worth of watches stolen from the room that could only be accessed by dealers and security. Well it was an inside job , and was taken by another dealer. This is mostly the people you are dealing with should you chose to do so...

    ALSO, whenever selling on consignment, its possible that "someone" might monkey around with a few of the parts on the watch. Original manufacturer spare parts can be sold and are valuable. One really does not know what happens to a watch before it gets sold on consignment. This is another reason why its probably best to get paid the money up front instead of consignment sale.

    It is about trust, we have never reinvested someone’s money, pay as soon as consignment watch has sold and only consign watches that would be slow /hard movers. But then, we have 35 years business experience and have never been arrested for anything, ever
