Time to Unplug?

Unplug for Clarity: Why Taking a Break is Crucial for Founders
Hey Founders,
Jeff Munn here, creating extraordinary futures. As we reach this bustling time of the year, I wanted to share one of my favorite quotes from writer Anne Lamott: "Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you." This simple yet profound piece of wisdom has never been more relevant than it is now.
I frequently encounter founders, both current clients and those on the verge of becoming clients, struggling to maintain focus amidst the chaos of the season. There's so much happening that it's easy to lose sight not only of what you're doing but also why you're doing it.
Consider this analogy: imagine your computer with 37 browser tabs open, each one demanding attention. Your system starts to lag, every action takes longer, and frustration builds. That’s you. You’re the computer, straining to process an overwhelming amount of information and tasks.
Taking a break can seem counterintuitive when you're swamped with responsibilities, but it’s incredibly beneficial. Breaks activate different parts of your brain, allowing you to gain fresh perspectives and renewed energy. Whether it's going for a walk at lunchtime, working out, taking a shower, going on a vacation, or simply unplugging for the weekend-any form of reset can act like a reboot for your brain.
I've observed that many people struggle to take these necessary breaks. The logical side of your brain, the left hemisphere-the serial processor and Taskmaster-often won’t allow you to step away. To counter this, turn stepping away into a project. Schedule it. Put it on your calendar, even if it’s just for an hour or a few days.
Every time I've facilitated a retreat or break with a client, they’ve experienced significant insights. One client, who runs a sizable company, completely shifted his priorities after just a day and a half together. This is what you might be missing out on by not taking that step back-the clarity and vision that come from giving your brain the chance to reset.
This week, I invite you to consider what you might be missing because that relentless Taskmaster in your brain won’t let you pause. If this resonates with you, let's have a chat. I’d love to help you find the clarity you need to push your vision forward.
Thanks for reading, and remember, sometimes the best way to move forward is to unplug and reset.
