    Thanks for this series of videos. I am a novice with an old backhoe. I have learned a lot from you. Bentonite is the Problem where I live, not the solution. Go down 18 inches and you'd think it goes a ll the way to China, but they say it's only about 50 feet deep.

    Will definitely be a pretty spot when it is full with the mature timber around it like that. Hope she holds. With what you you have going there and the shallow depth it should have a real good chance. My fingers are are crossed. Nice bit of work man

    A quick look and a lot of use have the same thought. If you have access to a tractor and fertilizer spreader that would create an even distribution throughout the pond creating a better seal. Also you could out 3+ bags in at a time and then use the excavator to do the part that was too wet. Your videos are awesome, keep up the good work.

    Fertiliuzer spreader on the back of a tractor. They are set up to be refilled from those size bags and the speed you go at determines the depth of coverage. They can broadcast fertilizer pellets out to about 40 feet depending on the size.

    In snow areas, the highway depts. use a salt spreader behind the snow plow. You could regulate the amount of bentonite, with a 'throw area' of 1-1/2 to 2 traffic lanes.

    We very rarely have to line ponds with clay as the ground up here in VT. It is either clay or ledge. The clay we use is just like the clay you use in pottery. It's either a white clay or blue clay. Usually only have to line ponds that have a sandy or gravel bottom or ledge bottom

    A drop spreader about 10 ft wide is perfect. They are hard to find not all ate up from neglect and misuse. A lime spreader truck would be the next best if it had flotation tires. Tractor drawn fertilizer spreaders can do the job but not made to withstand the powder associated with spreading non pelletized media. Betonite will break up somewhat as it hits the spinners, maybe a good thing, may not. That's why I would use a drop spreader.

    Easy fix… Get yourself a 12 foot chain-link fence folded over to where it 6 foot and connected together. Keep it on your truck rolled up it’s a good tool to have. Connect to the back of your tractor/vehicle and drive up and down it one time it would spread it almost perfectly. It is the best way I’ve found to generically rake large areas and what makes this nearly perfectly.

    by the way.. Bentonite powder poured over an oil stain on concrete and worked in and left for a few days will usually pull the oil right out of the cement surface .. amazings stuff.. the powered form was also used as a buffing powder for pianos when they were painted with real nitrocellulose lacquer. especially the black pianos. swirl free finish. that version was very carefully screened to get rid of any but the smallest particles. so don't try it. might have to create a bucket lip that straps on with a screen to you can spread it out even better than you did..

  • @throngcleaver

    @throngcleaver

    5 жыл бұрын

    That type of excavator has the boom on the right side of the cab, so it cannot hit it. Most modern excavators cannot hit themselves with the bucket or other parts of the boom and stick, except for the tracks. Most of them can hit the tracks with the bucket, and for the smaller machines with a dozer blade, the bucket can hit that too.

    if it's too wet for a skid steer, I'm guessing a dump truck would get about two feet before getting stuck ... otherwise I'd say rent a highway sand/salt spreader. Even so, I'm sure there are plenty of tractor or agricultural based solutions you could use, but I'm not sure any of them would be all that much smoother than just the excavator bucket right there ...
