    I do love the wide view of Anamorphic lenses and only use them in projects that I have control of. Any events that is run-n-gun, I still prefer to use aspherical lenses for that lightning accurate autofocus.

    Really hope Sony cameras like a7s3 can have in-camera d-squeeze option on its built-in display. Also have the black and white on display only so I can do manually focus better.

    I really do think this is the future of the wedding industry. We need to separate ourselves from the dad video, content creators, and the like. Anamorphic is the TRUE cinematic look, no matter what others may argue. I have just invested in a set and I do believe this will separate the wedding Anamorphic shooters from the crowd. I know they look soft, and they have their negatives, but I love that barrel distortion look. They also give that soft skin look that many woman like. So let's see where the industry goes.....

    I rented a Sirui anamorphic last Christmas for a shoot. It kind of worked for well-lit, locked down shots. But I was trying really hard to hard to use it for gimbal-mounted, remote focused (via Raveneye) moving shots and the tipping point was adding a monitor Mount to the side of the gimbal. It just … was too ambitious. For all the heavy lifting the a7s3 does in low-light, I still craved a brighter image, OSS, and autofocus. And some images were great, but I don’t think I can have all of those things I’m used to with the G Master lenses. Probably will use it again, but not to purchase. I just wouldn’t equip it enough for our use-case.

    How do you find it mixed with other footage? I'd like to implement anamorphic but the truth is we will have to cut quite a bit of the sides off probably to mix it in. Any sample footage we could play with?? Thanks

  • @waynosfotoscameras

    I personally don't see this as a problem, I change aspect ratio in my videos all the time. I fill the black bar part with some other clip, this could be clouds, scratches or what ever, you fade it out so it is not distracting. So when the image changes aspect ratio, it is not so noticeable. So you keep the total aspect ratio in 16:9 for the whole video.

    Who's actually adding bars in post these days? Unless it's for something like Instagram, you should be able to just render out wider ratios natively. KZread supports it. I'm pretty sure other places do too.

  • @katflorida8349

    How exactly you mean that? You mean just change the ratio on post production on an editing software of a clip originally filmed in 16:9?

  • @gmcubed

    @gmcubed

    8 ай бұрын

    @katflorida8349 yes, like I'd you have 16:9 footage and want 1.85:1 (which is wider, like star wars) you wouldn't add bars, you would crop the 16:9 footage by placing it in a new 1.85:1 timeline, not add bars.

    Saw that adapter, it has its issues and doesn't work on all lens, it is also a lot of weight to mount to the front of your lens, you really need rails and a support for them.

    I don’t understand why you’d buy a lens to distort an image only to correct it in post? That’s like buying a broken car that you have to fix before you can drive it? I’ve obviously misunderstood somewhere…!

  • @BassManNv

    @BassManNv

    Try not to look at it as cropping. Try to look at it as super sampling. You’re squeezing quality into a smaller area. Cars are a bit objective. A better parallel would be paint brushes. Some appeal, some don’t. But at the end of the day they’re just tools we use to create art!

  • @waynosfotoscameras

    The reason they were designed like this is because the film or sensors at the time were made at a 3:2 ratio, like the old TVs. So the lens then squeezed the image onto a standard film stock, then the projector at the cinema had a desqueeze lens on it. This allowed for the panavision look. This is a very old technology. The difference we have today is that these lenses were insanely expensive and heavy, and now the technology (although not perfect) has been made much cheaper and lighter, allowing access by hobbists and small businesses. That is why this is now becoming popular.

  • @JeffBourke

    To be honest, for most people the best advice is do not bother going anamorphic. Stick with what you know. Stick with what you have and concentrate more on quality content and storyline

  • @BryceDocherty

    @@katflorida8349 Absolutely not :) . You film with these lenses for a certain feel. SO many films are shot on spherical lenses still. I prefer spherical lenses more just because they feel more like reality. But anamorphic is a very cool look. It just depends on the project and if it fits the story and style.
